"Anything but a tourist trap. excellent restaurant. tortellini in brodo divins. zuppa inglese delicious. the setting is enchanting: the piazza santo stefano so beautiful with its complex of fascinating and unexpected churches. very courteous staff. We were able to have lunch because unfortunately it is very difficult to have a table for dinner! Once again, I find it difficult to understand some negative opinions. Bologna seems to me to be a city where one eats especially well even in the historic center without getting caught. Beautiful city in addition!"

"Vegetarians and vegans beware. Even after making crystal clear in the reservation that two of us didn’t eat meat, we were served pork. We noted the meat and they quickly offered a vegetarian substitution never mentioned before knowing we didn’t eat meat. No sincere apology or comp’d item (this was by far the most expensive meal we had in Bologna, BTW). In fact the chef was downright rude and tried to imply it was our fault. After his colleague explained to him that we had properly identified “no meat” the chef basically shrugged his shoulders. Despite their indifference to food sensitivities or preferences, the overall experience felt gimmicky and arrogant. We’ve been to Michelin-starred (and Bib Gourmand) restaurants all over the world that are far superior and treat their guests with respect. Bologna is a remarkable food city and you have many fantastic options — Oltre was a miss for us. Fortunately it was the only poor food experience we had. I will say, their cocktail list was well constructed. So maybe go for a cocktail and skip the meal."
