"Love Mercato for Italian. I highly recommend reserving the kitchen bar for a date night and share a few dishes. I literally don't think you can go wrong, there isn't a bad dish on the menu. This past visit went with the caprese for the appatiser, the Seafood Pasta on special was amazing and the lamb sirloin with a side of the mushrooms was a great way to set it all in. Some of the best lamb I've had bar none. Got our dessert to go so they didn't have to roll us out of the restaurant and it was a huge portion when getting it to go!Parking: There's a dedicated parking lot behind the restaurant, street parking isn't always easy in Mission."

"It used to be iconic. It used to be a mainstay in the Calgary dining scene. I was taught the pleasure of an after meal espresso by some of the most professional and conscientious waitstaff from an age gone by. This is no longer even a thin veneer of what it once was. We had a larger booking, (requiring multiple phone calls because the staff answering the phone didn't have a pen close by) for a party of eight, celebrating a grandmother's birthday. Although I had specified this at the time of booking, LDV staff didn't advise that there would be restrictions for a party of this size. Upon arriving for our reservation, we were advised that we couldn't order from a menu, but only pizza and bar food. While ultimately we were allowed to order, rather than find a more appropriate dining place for our party, we were not advised that a large gratuity would be added to our bill. Normally this wouldn't be an issue, but the service was poor, with the exception of one waitress who attended to us later in the service, and the food was just acceptable. It's a shame to see the deterioration of such an iconic restaurant. We'll never go back."

"Tucked away in the basement of "The Italian Club" is La Cantina - a tiny spot open to the public serving lunch and dinner. They have many options on the menu, most prepared traditionally from the family recipes. However over the years and I assume as cost of food, labour, etc. increases we have noticed a slight decline in quality. This is also noticeable in their catering services. Numerous times I have recommended them for friends' events, and the quality vs. cost can be hard to justify. Maybe Italian food is just expensive but I'm not certain all of it has to be. In any case they have raised prices and shorted on taste and portions over the years. It could also be staff changes that created this effect, but I'm just guessing. Still a very good lunch or dinner spot (once, maybe twice a year) or even just an afternoon game of bocce ball as they have indoor lanes on the back half of the restaurant."

"I find the selection of meats and cheeses is very good and it is priced much less than supermarkets. I picked up meats and cheeses for my mother's 90th birthday party, plus bruschetta and a spicy olive tapinade-style spread. The guests told me how nice...and fresh everything was. They also have great buns and breads, plus a supply of fresh herbs. There is a large selection of pastas and different sauces. They also have a variety of ready to cook things like raviolis in the freezer. The selection of olive oils is fantastic. The lunch counter is decent. I have had their calamari and their sausage on a bun. Both were good. They serve big bowls of soup that looked really good, as well. It is a worthwhile place to stop and shop, plus maybe grab a bite to eat. They also have canned and jarred foods from Hungary, Mexico and other nations."
