"Had the Grand Slam Slugger with French Toast instead of pancakes. Ordered over medium eggs and was more towards over hard, bummer. French toast was good but a little thin on the hash browns and bacon. Coffee was good needed that this morning) and service was good. Clean place and overall was a good place to eat."

"As a long time resident of San Mateo County, Whale City Bakery and Grill use to be a must stop every time I drove Highway 1 between Santa Cruz and Half Moon Bay. Up until about 10 years ago I 'd stop, if only to buy a cup of their (then) excellent and always hot and fresh dark roast coffee. If possible, I would time my drive to stop and enjoy a meal, and the very friendly and attentive wait staff and coastal casual restaurant vibe. Then, the quality of the coffee, meals and service slowly began to change. I stopped buying coffee there about two years because it 's no longer the full, robust flavor they were known for and now, more often than not, the coffee is tepid and stale. Since reopening after Covid, the table service has become highly variable, ranging from excellent to non-existent. I 'm slow to learn, so I 've had meals there three times in the last six months and two things were true each time, the meal was sub-par and wait service indifferent and nearly non-existent. Today was my latest, and last mistake. I stopped for lunch, figuring that ordering their Landing Burger would be a safe bet. I was wrong. The French fries were cooked very well, but lacked any seasoning. The hamburger itself was also very bland, and the patty served very, very well done instead of the medium (with explicit instructions to the wait person) I had ordered. I ended up eating it because I couldn 't the wait person 's attention to return the overcooked burger. When he finally showed up to give me the check, I told him about the problem and his reply was yea, we 've been having problems with the cook . Lesson learned, they 've lost me as a customer."
