"This restaurant is always there, owned by Mercedes himself, who is a very beautiful old lady. Lunch is served with a menu that is about 6 or 7 soles and the place is packed with locals. The night she's here and she's gonna cook for you if you want, but I never found anyone in the night I left. Vegetables are fresh and food very good! I am vegan and even though they have offered to replace something not vegan for something else a few times, the waiters have also told me that it certainly wasn't cheese where it was so that you can't be picky here."

"It's not exactly a market, but one woman (Ruth) selling organic produce from her farm. The size doesn't matter; the quality is excellent. I love the wide variety in especially types of lettuces (sorry, don't know names) which is a pleasant change of the standard Peruvian leaf veggies like spinach and acelga. These two are for sale here as well, by the way. Other veggies (depending on season): carrots, beets, cucumber, but also herbs like coriander, mint and such."

"To be honest, this wasn't our first choice of dining in Huanchaco, but the first place didn't seem to have anything that was on their menu so we went walking and found this little place on the other side of town and it was far from disappointing. We had loads of questions about the food, etc and the waitress and chef were very patient and helped us pick an array of dishes. we enjoyed tallarin especial s/23 (noodles with chicken, meat, vegetables - delicious), garlic chicken s/20, chicken curry s/23 and a tamarind chicken s/20 all washed down with homemade lemonade. They also had some things missing from the menu - hence our entire choice being chicken dishes but everything was tasty, the servings were generous and the service was fantastic. It's not a budget night out but as a nice little splurge on our budget it was well worth it. We've also eaten Chinese here and there along our travels as it's one of our favourite cuisines and these guys hit the flavour on the head. It may not be traditional Chinese but it was delicious. Try them out when in Huanchaco."

"I just stumbled on this hole-in-the-wall restaurant when I arrived in Trujillo eight days ago, but I was so impressed by my first dinner there that I finally ate all my lunch and dinner there until my last day, the exception is Sunday... Dinner when El Sol is closed. The atmosphere is very basic, but the food is excellent and I always ate the advertised 'Lunch' or 'Dinner' for five soles, a mere $1.93. For this I received a large bowl with hot veggies soup at any meal that was often built around Quinoa, a small salad of fresh, crispy vegetables and a main course around BROWN RICE and various combinations of vegetables, potatoes and sauces. Delicious, nutritious and fillable and so inexpensive. I surrendered BROWN RICE because I was only served in Guatemala, Costa Rica, Ecuador and Panama white rice. You will not find the more nutritious BROWN RICE served in Central and Latin America, but El Sol serves BROWN RICE (aka 'arroz integral'. And every lunch comes with a refreshment and every dinner a hot cup of herbal tea. Quino has cooked competently and served the dinner, and I have missed the name of the lunch kitchen probably because El Sol is a lot more busy at lunch and the cook was tied in the kitchen. In short or almost no waiting for the food and El Sol is just around the corner of my favorite Trujillo Hostel, Munay Wasi, with the inimitable Carmela."
