"Visited to eat at Lal Sher in the Red Lion on Mother’s Day. Had pre-booked but had to wait 30 mins to be seated. No one took our drinks orders. Finally was able to request some poppadoms after being sat for 30 mins and ordered starters and mains. Starters took an hour and then we had to wait a further 5 minutes for cutlery. Sauces for the starters came out as we were finishing. We were still not able to put in a drinks order so we had to go to the bar for drinks. Mains took a further 1 hour and 20 mins. In contrast to our last visit here, the food was bland and the chicken was gristly. The biryani was tasteless. We advised the staff, the meal wasn’t a great standard and it was annoying we didn’t get any table service for drinks. Keep having to leave the table to queue at a busy bar was not ideal when we were finally able to eat. During the visit, I went to the toilets and found them dirty. Full of cobwebs and unclean. The bins were over flowing and there was no hand wash. On the way back, the kitchen door was open and I looked in. On the floor was discarded food and the whole kitchen looked to be disorganised. On the way back to the table, I noted there were multiple dirty plates piled up on tables and food around tables on the floor. They clearly didn’t have enough staff to operate on a busy evening and even though people were paying to eat at the restaurants, they continued to serve takeaways who were getting served much quicker than sit in customers."

"My wife and I were looking forward to having dinner at the Spirit Restaurant, as we had been unable to go out for awhile. We had an aperitif in the lounge/bar area first, I chose the wine (Victoria Park Shiraz -recommended) and then through for dinner. Before the meal we were treated to an amuse bouche: a good start. My wife had chicken liver parfait, which she enjoyed; I had the homemade black pudding with fried egg etc which was excellent. Onto the mains and my wife had lamb wellington and I had the rib-eye. Both were first class and I complimented the owner on his steak. One of the best, if not the best steak this year! We passed on the pudding course as the first two courses were enough for the night but there were good choices available. Excellent service throughout and we have since booked-in for a taster menu/wine flight evening in June. A great evening was had at one of our favourite restaurants, a five star event."

"First time we used this take away and never again the food was terrible. We ordered for 4 people and almost every dish was horrible. The rice was gluey and inedible and the king po dish was tasteless as was the chilli beef which should have been spicy. We were very disappointed."

"We are a party of 15 and that was our 6th Christmas day in the cardamom. eating was amazing, the atmosphere was really festive and sab and the staff could not do enough for us. this place disappointed in the did this year was still our best. bravo to all in the kardamom and a happy new year until 2018."
