"We were in Costa Maya for one day on a cruise ship. We took the town bus (its called a shuttle)to the Mahahaul beach which is actually the edge of their town. Get off at the 1st stop. You will see Señor Frogs- don't eat there. Turn right on the boardwalk and walk down to the building with all the colorful flags blowing in the breeze. This is Kimbara Caribbean Cantina. We ordered quesadillas and fish tacos. Order one of each because the cabbage salad comes with the quesadilla and the pico de gallo comes with the tacos and they are both fresh and delicious. After we ate we walked back to Senior Frogs and hired a snorkel boat from Emile. His two men took us out to the reef in his little skiff for $30 a piece. We saw the cruise ship excursion guests on another skiff and they payed $69 a piece and were crammed 20 to a boat. We had our own boat. The snorkeling was great, lots of colorful fish swimming in schools, unique coral. After our snorkel we hired massages on the beach for $25 for 30 min. We walked along the boardwalk and shopped from the vendors but the good shopping was back in the area around the cruise ship dock. We had a wonderful time at this beach. We took a cab back to the ship for $2 a piece. We could see the ship from Mahahaul beach all day and felt safe that we would be able to return in time to make the ships departure deadline. Don't pay for a ship snorkel excursion in Costa Maya. Do it yourself."

"The hostess/waitress described some of their seafood dishes which sounded quite good, but the prices were extremely high. We looked over the menu and found some reasonably priced items (prices listed in pesos). Asked if we could pay with credit card in pesos, and she agreed. Our meal was very tasty. Then she brought the bill, with prices based on US dollar values that weren't on the menu, converted to peso prices roughly three times the peso prices shown on the menu. I was in a hurry to return to my cruise ship and didn't have time nor inclination for a fight over the matter. If I cruise to Costa Maya in the future, I'll likely remain on the ship. I've never had poor experiences like this in Cozumel and other countries."

"El sabor de la cocina es magnifico, los ceviches son una locura de tamaño y sabor. La comida la preparan al momento; esto hace que el servicio sea un poco lento pero una vez que te sirven tu platillo, todo se te olvida. Lo precios adecuados al lugar, si te gusta el pescado y los mariscos frescos, esta es una muy buena alternativa."

"Estuvimos a desayunar y quedarnos un rato en la playa (muy bonita por cierto) y nos decepcionó el servicio (muy informal) y la calidad de la comida... perfecta para los cruzeristas que vienen de los estados unidos. No regresaría."

"We just returned from a 10 day stay in Mahahual and had breakfast at Caribbean's Life almost every day. The servers are wonderful, and the location is perfect! We really enjoyed the salsa with the chorizo and egg tacos. Yum! We will visit again next time we are in town!"

"We sat down and were handed a menu that had prices in pesos. When we received the bill they wanted $103 (USD). We noticed one of the items that was 100 pesos in the menu they put as $14 on our bill and another 100 pesos item as $16 on the bill. When we questioned it, we were told that was their conversion. We had just been at ATM and exchange shop so we already knew the exchange was 19 pesos for $1 USD. They said they don't use that conversion rate, they have their own conversion rate. We said we would pay in pesos. So she redid the bill for 1110 pesos. Then I said get me the menu and I added our items ordered from the menu prices as 770 pesos. Then she changes to 950 pesos. Then a manager came over and it was changed a third time to 900 pesos which is $47 USD. When we were there I thought the name on the shirt said "The Drunken Burrito" but the pictures on this "The Diving Burrito" is the same as the place we were at yesterday. Stay away!!"
