Good place, nice view, very friendly staff. Stayed here for the day when I got off the cruise. Taxi is $10 outside the main port.
If anyone is looking for a relaxing spot on the beach with great food, friendly staff and awesome drinks the Kimbara Caribbean Cantina is a must. Kilo and his staff immediately make you feel welcome and as some of the other reviews mentioned, I really did not want to leave to go back to the ship. I had the chicken burrito and it was amazing! If Costa Maya is one of your stops on a cruise, take the shuttle to the second stop and head to the beach. Look to the right and you are there!
We stayed in Mahahual for 2 nights and discovered Kimbara by accident which was great luck. The service is warm and welcome, the best we had in Mexiko during our 2 weeks trip. Ask for their catch of the day. We had a very fresh fish lovely prepared. The ambience inside could have been more inviting, but that does not matter when having great food!!

Two weeks ago, my husband and I took a 7-day NCL cruise out of Tampa, Florida. One of the stops on the cruise was Costa Maya. Instead of taking one of the NCL excursions, we decided to have our own beach day, and hopefully find some 'local' food to eat. Luckily for us, we found Kimbara's! The beach in front of the restaurant is beautiful and very relaxing. I took the opportunity to get a deep tissue massage for only $30! Afterwards, we decided to order some fish, lobster, margaritas, and chips and salsa. The owner and staff were very friendly; gave us great service, and welcomed us like family. My husband tried several drinks and types of tequilas. Our order for the seafood resulted in the freshest seafood we have had in a LONG time! I'm attaching a photo of it to this review. Believe it or not, we only paid $45 for the fish and lobster! The food, the view, the beach, the seabreeze, the beautiful water, extremely friendly staff at Kimbara's......my husband describes this place as awesome! We reluctantly went back to our ship. We wanted to stay on the Mahahual beach forever. Don't miss this place!
