"This is going to be a fairly lengthy and seriously critical review, as I believe that the owner and manager should be informed of how his staff are performing. Reviewing companies was part of my business life for many years and I have no stone to grind and no contact with any competitors. My wife and I spend one full month every year in Mildura and have never eaten at The Rustic Olive before but, do eat out on a regular basis. In Australia and overseas. In late May 2017, my wife and I, with an old friend who happened to be a well known local, very respected business man from Mildura, arrived at The Rustic Olive. The setting of the dining room was very pleasant the waitress who greeted us was very friendly and helpful but I believe became quite flusteredas the evening progressed. We ordered a beer for my friend and one for me, with my wife ordering a Brandy and Coke. We looked through the wine list and could find nothing there that came from a recognised National or local vinery and my friend said that, to his considerable local knowledge, there were no local wineries supported that he knew of, on the wine list. Therefore selecting a quality wine at $38.00 a bottle was hit and miss. When it arrived it turned out to be VERY average. My firend got a beer glass to go with his beer but I did not. So I used the water glass. The Male waiter saw this and brought me another water glass. As usual we ordered Garlic bread at $9.00, expecting two or three pieces per serve and simply said. Please give us enough garlic bread for the three of us. When is arrived, in a single bowl, as expected, it was FOUR small pieces of toast. Hard both sides and thin, with no taste of garlic at all. My friend brought this to the attention of the waitress who apologised and said that it would be taken off the bill.My wife ordered the rib eye steak and asked for it to be cooked medium rare as she hates for the meat to be bloody. My friend said, "I'll have what she is having." And I ordered the Chicken Supreme. All meals in the $35.00 to $38.00 price range and sides at $9.00 each, as to be expected in a top restaurant. My wife ordered a side of Mixed Vegetables, Farmers something or other. I ordered a mixed salad with special house dressing. My wife's steak arrived. It sort of looked okay but I have never seen a steak that looked as black as this one and I spent several years as a memeber of the Beer and Beef Club in Adelaide. My friend had a Sirlion steak put in front of him. When it was pointed out to the waitress that this is not what he had ordered, the waitress said that she would get it changed but my friend decided, begrudgingly, to accept it so we could all eat together. My Chicken Supreme arrived and I was disappointed by the small amount of meat on the plate, about half the amount of an normal Chicken Kiev, but accepted it. It was accompanied by a few charred corn cobs. Then my wife's side dish arrived and was simply a plate of string beans. Not the mixed vegetables she had ordered. Again, it was pointed out to the waitress who took it away and eventually brought back a dish of mixed vegetables, as originally ordered. I asked her "Why are these mistakes being made. You wrote all the orders down?"She replied , "Well, that is what the chef sent out." I found that a very curious reply from a waitress. My wife's steak was bloody in the middle and she could only eat the outside. My friend's steak was fine for the first half but the second half was mostly gristle and inedible. My chicken was well overcooked. Hard and dense. In all, a disaster of a meal that cost $180.00 for three people. If the owner or the management allows this sort of service, they should be ashamed of themselves. If not and they allow this sort of service and meals to continue. I don't hold much hope of them lasting much longer. As it was I only saw another four people in the restaurant that night and now know that the restaurant has a very mixed reputation in Mildura. I will certainly not be going there again. They should certainly be employing a good chef, not a cook."

"Been here several times already. Food is authentic and affordable. Staff are friendly and service is fast. I highly recommend tom yum (better than Thairiffic’s), pork and chicken skewers, pad thai, and mango sticky rice. I could only suggest better interiors to attract more customers."

"While visiting during some exceptionally warm weather, light meals were the order of the day so I ordered or entrees which was just perfect. With several to choose from, I enjoyed them so much, I tried other options the next evening! Such a...selection right across the menu, each meal I saw looked amazing and reasonably priced. Do yourself a favour, put this restaurant on your list. Congratulations and thank you to the chef and staff."
