"We were nine for dinner on Mothers' Day and it couldn't have gone better. From the wonton and sweet and sour soups, to the spring rolls, from the Peking duck (two ways) to the prawns in black bean sauce, chicken with cashews, chicken chow mien and the melt in your mouth pork ribs, every dish was spot on, tasty and very well presented. The place was a bit of a madhouse with every seat taken and a truck-load of huge take-out orders being handled without a pause in our service. The staff were friendly and very helpful and delivered our meals with a lot of smiles. My grandchildren suggested that we will have to go back and we will, no question. If you are looking for the best Chinese food on the North Shore, this is it."

"What a delightful find! We had stopped at the deli across the street and were disappointed with its current offerings since it changed hands. I spotted Falafully Good across the street and am so glad I did! The small storefront shop smelled incredibly wonderful from the moment we walked in. Two separate shawarma stands were rotating, enticing us with beef and chicken options. I had wanted falafal but was lured into a beef shawarma wrap by the vision before me. The wrap was incredibly, filled with beef, veggies, hummus, tabbouli and hot sauce. Truly one of the best I've eaten anywhere.My partner ordered a samosa and was very happy with the large, veggie filled treat. The hot optional hot sauce is a lovely addition, and they topped it with tabbouli as well, for an interesting fusion experience.After the meal, I asked if the food were halal or kosher. Everything they serve is halal, and eating meat from animals that were humanely and sustainably raised is always a bonus in my book. I'll be back! Strongly recommend."

"We stopped in for lunch at Rose Thai thinking that we would love to grab a quick bit to eat after walking through the harmony arts festival. After ordering an appie and entree (two dishes total) - we waited and then waited some more. The wait staff were doing there best but at the 45 mark when our appie had yet to arrive we started asking questions. The table next to us seemed to be getting food but there seemed to be nothing we could do to get ours. At one hour mark our appie came (lettuce wrap) and then we waited another 30 minutes to get our entree (a curry). The lettuce wraps were quite good but the curry was average.The wait staff kept saying the kitchen was run off its feet - there was only one kitchen staff on. But as we were leaving the restaurant the chef came out for hugs and conversation with with the table next to us (the ones that had food arrive none stop the whole time we were waiting). Clearly these were VIPs and clearly our business wasn't wanted or valued. We won't be back."

"It’s not apparent when walking by that this previously all Italian restaurant now has a curry section! The sign for the Golden Curry is high up and close to the building easily seen driving by, but almost impossible to spot on foot. However its curry menu is quite extensive, and my usual reliable choice of chicken tikka masala (medium spicy! was quite delicious, as was my friend’s chicken korma! (And there was lots of it to take home for tomorrow’s lunch. The service was friendly and welcoming, but dinner was a long time coming, like an hour! It didn’t bother us as we’d have been there that long chatting anyway, but if someone was in a hurry, a wait this long would have been more than annoying."

"Every weekend I cycle past the tiresome East Vancouver hipsters waiting in line at trendy Nice Cafe and The Wallflower. Instead, I head to this locals' secret brunch spot. Formerly the Rhizome Cafe, new managers at Heartwood have kept all the ingredients in place: bright, cozy atmosphere; huge mugs of coffee, healthy twists on egg dishes; and lots of heart. nOh, and look up for a peek at the unusual (for Vancouver) stamped-tin ceiling tiles.My favourite is the eggs benedict: poached eggs on homemade cornbread slathered with a bright squash sauce, a big pile of salad, and pan-fried potatos. You can also go Mexi with the chilaquiles, or west coast with a smoked salmon omelette. And yes, they have bacon.The attitude is utterly all-inclusive: everyone is welcome--straight, queer, vegan, meat eater, activist, tourist. You eat local, and you're treated like a local. I usually go for brunch, but drop by in the evening for a poetry slam, a $5.00 glass of wine, or a local brew."

"Ordered from Skip the Dishes and was delivered the wrong order. Handi asked us to send the driver back to the restaurant to pick up the correct order, 1 hour later and still no food. Apparently the driver did not return to the restaurant because our food was still sitting there, COLD. You'd think after an hour Handi would have called us. There was no manager and the server seemed to be making up percentages that he would discount a future order. Meal was well bellow average and service was horrible so we will not be ordering from them again. Thankfully Skip the Dishes gave us a refund because Handi didn't."
