"There are no words. We waited over an hour for our food. While waiting, we had “live” entertainment as we watched a rat, the size of a house cat, walk across two tables and scurry over the chairs around the tables. We finally lost sight of it, but did take some fantastic video that will be forwarded to the health department.There was only one waitress working the floor and answering the phone for the plethora of takeout orders. The two cooks could not keep up and customers had to be turned away. We have been coming to this restaurant for over 40 years and it has never been this bad.When Daisy retired, Capilano Gardens, as we once knew it, went with her.We will not be returning."

"This is one of our favourite brunch places. It is conveniently located on Marine Drive in West Vancouver; perfect for a good meal before or after a hike. As the name of the restaurant suggests, many of the brunch items include truffles! Below were what we ordered:. West Van Omelette $14). Very hearty omelette with zucchini, spinach, red pepper, baby spinach, tomatoes, three cheeses the most prominent one I tasted was mozzarella), and herbs. The outside was lightly brown, and the inside was still warm and moist. Omelette orders also came with toasts, roasted potatoes, and a choice of ham/sausage/turkey sausage. The turkey sausage we had was healthier, and it did not compromise on flavour!"

"Love their custom sandwiches, especially the tuna with a kick of spice. Lots of lunch options here, something for everyone, very well priced. Nice little bar area to eat inside, or patio tables outside for nice weather. After lunch you can browse through the store and get some great specialty items, prepared meats, fresh bread, etc. Yum."

"Is always happy to find a great japanese restaurant! The prices are spot on and the food is fresh and of high quality! I got a combo plate which was great bang for your buck! Lots of food for 15.00$ would I recommend this place hands down yes! I just felt that for lunch on a Saturday the service was a little sluggish."

"After some shopping in west van we decided to see if we could find a place to eat in the area. After some deliberation we decided to check out Carmelo's due to the high reviews and some craving for an Italian night out. We quickly realized we made a great decision on our meal. We ordered a couple of Appetizers (Carmelo's Garlic Cheese Pizza Bread and the Sauteed Prawns) alongside 2 of their pastas (Penne Salsiccia, Linguini Alla Vongole) for our entrees. The apps were great and the Penne Salsiccia was perfect. However, we found the Vongole to be slightly bland tasting. The vibes of the place were perfect for a chilly Monday night, and we loved the quick and helpful service. Definitely give this place a visit!"

"We headed over the bridge from downtown as we had heard such great things about Terroir. Those recos did not let us down. I believe the brunch menu has only been around a month or so but there were no signs of this. It seems a well established menu offering the usual two eggs any style while then taking it up a notch with offerings of venison and frittata of the day. We took a frittata of the day and the poached egg and prosciutto. The potatoes were to die for and were so amazing. We also ordered a side order or French toast which was hugggge lovely and filling. It was all baked fresh in house and was just scrumptious. There is ample space, we were there with 3 babies and a toddler and we were made so comfortable. All round it was a brilliant brunch spot a little ride from downtown. We will definitely be back and we are also looking forward to trying out the dinner menu as well as the patio which has an ocean view and should be opening very soon. Thank you Terroir!"

"There are at least six Japanese restaurants in Ambleside, in a 4-block strip. This is one of only two that serves vegetarian miso soup. (The other, smaller, is in the same block. In addition, there is a vegetarian section on the menu with an extensive selection, far more than most Japanese restaurants. We took our own smoked tofu for the cook to make roles, and he was accommodating, but this is unnecessary. They have their own inari tofu roles. In addition to the vegetarian menu area, there are other vegetarian/ vegan options that are not often available in Japanese restaurants. For example, vegetarian gyoza and the Mr. Bean role that is unique. It is wrapped with bean curd instead of filled with avocado, yam tempura and mushrooms – a great role. It is listed under special roles, not in the vegetarian section, although it is vegan. The cook and other employees are very aware and sensitive to vegetarian/vegan requirements. There is the possibility to use brown rice for the rolls for a small additional cost – can also be ordered on your own. There are vegetarian lunch and dinner boxes, with tofu. Single sushi pieces are big – the avocado has a lot of avocado, and the inari is a small boat filled with rice. Atmosphere is pleasant, quiet and intimate. It is the only Japanese restaurant in the area with traditional decor including private stands and 5 tatami rooms. Being up increases the feeling of privacy as it is removed from the street and there is a view of the water from some of the tatami rooms. However, it is not wheelchair-friendly because there is no elevator. The best for vegetarians – it doesn’t smell like fish! Japanese music, mostly with singing, is whipped out. The music inside is soft western pop music. For what it is worth, there is a large flat-screen TV near the entrance, but we never had the desire to watch it. We have tried several Japanese restaurants in the area, some in the South Surrey/White Rock area and some in Vancouver itself. These are the hands down. The prices are no more than any other Japanese restaurant, and the quality is excellent. There is an alcohol license with wine, beer, sake, etc. Parking on the street is free, but it can not be easy to find at times. Public transport is very convenient; many buses drive along Marine Drive. Ichiban is suitable for casual or formal meals or romantic meals. I highly recommend for vegetarians / vegans."
