City: Carindale, Camp Hill Marketplace, 25 Samuel Street, Camp Hill, Brisbane, Carindale, Australia
"TL;DR: Really good find, all by sheer chance after so many times passing it by. They get that deceivingly simple dish fish and chips and manage to do right by it. Even on a singular portion, there is enough to go around, and from the taste of it all quality control is apparent. This is a winner.
There are quite a few gems that have popped up at the Marketplace in Camp Hill, with this one being possibly the long-time contender outlasting most of the competition. Hidden just a bit out of site, and away from all the other competition that abounds it, this place still manages to get found out eventually. Slightly, if ever so slightly but not really, hidden away with the slight cool atmosphere (seafood is delicate with temperature, anyone cooking with it knows that), for being the local those in walking distance have scored.
It was not just merely going to be another wresting event this coming weekend; instead, it was going to the first of a long-awaited event that was on many fans' lips. They had just introduced the British version of NXT, and like many people I had the question of whether they would do Takeovers as they do with the regular NXT. The short answer is yes, they were. I could not be more excited.
When it came to that weekend, it was not the fact that the same verse was going on as with other previous PPV events this time around, I had the opportunity to theme it as such. Out of the delivery options, I thought it had to be as British as it could get. While there is definitely a case for good old Indian to be the contender, fish and chips won out as the winner. It was all a case of a new one
Essentially that meant getting back onto the UberEats app, filling in the order, then just sitting and waiting for it to arrive. Not all that much to talk here, this is a fish and chip shop after all so therefore, as long as the idea is quick being the word, and fast being the action, all is good there. But I will take this opportunity to acknowledge they did a good job with chicken salt on the fries.
It is pretty straightforward what they got on offer with the menu the majority of it is some sort of seafood. There are about a dozen varieties of fish on offer, and from selecting one of those they have the general options of getting fried, battered, or grilled. Additionally from the sea, there's all sorts of shell fish plus calamari and prawns. Sprucing those up, they have seafood platters for varying numbers of people, and dinners which are whatever choice of seafood with a side of fries, and salad plus the lemon and tartare.
If there was one alteration to the menu I would make, it would possibly be to just have an option for fish and chips. That is the choice of fish (or other seafood if need be) pairing with the side of fries. Truth be told, this was the main option my eyes were hunting for. Just a thought.
They also had that range of characteristic snacks and such, which makes you know you are still in Australia. All of those are a few dollars more, and if they are your thing that is possibly a-steal. Plus, it would not be a self respecting fish and chip place if they did not have a couple of hamburger options on the table. That, plus basic sandwiches, salads on display, and for some strange reason Greek desserts, and ice cream to go.
Presumably they had beverages in store as well. Those would consist of juices, the normal lot of sodas, some iced teas, and whatnot. Just to grab something cold and convenient to wash it all down.
Getting onto the meal, it was merely a fish and chips that I was looking forward to. Deciding which one, well... Eenie, meeie, miney, mo barramundi. And you bet that sucker was battered. With the aforementioned talk of just wanting a straight up fish and chips meal, a small order of fries was gotten. Got to have some chicken salt on them.
What a meal it was. Fish and chips is one of these meals in which it is so simple to look at from a surface point of view, but underneath it all there are a number of factors of work to go into it. They have to be at work, and be given the attention to detail. You need a decent batter, high cooking temperatures, the fish to be cooked to just the right degree (we're talking Goldilocks here), and a seasoning works wonders. To put it in simpler context, there is quite a thin wedge to make good fish and chips which turns it into really good fish and chips. It is one time adequate does not cut the mustard, and sub-adequate is awful. When it is really on its game, it hits you like a sledgehammer.
Well, it did pretty damn well overall I would say. Opening up the packaging, the first aspect I noted was the batter. It was an unusual looking one, deviating away from the general smooth sheet. I wondered, and still wonder, what they put into the batter my first thoughts were Rice Krispies for some reason, or it could be potato crumbs. Never the less, this is a good start as it makes their look distinct from others. The texture was slightly less light than tempura, to me which is a high honour, and was both crispy and salty. The fish in the middle had the distinct texture of barramundi, and was a milder kind of fish. This big slice did its work, making a good first impression.
I really wondered at the time if I had actually clicked on the word small as opposed to one of the other sizes. Go to any old Maccas, or even Hungry Jacks, and getting the large results in maybe three handfuls of fries at most. This small potentially dwarfed their version of large, which already yields itself as a winner in my eyes. They didn't skimp this time, which makes all the more power to them. Hot, quite crispy, and oh-so-filling. From what I remember as well, I got these beer-battered; if that were true, it makes them all the more better.
I also had a crumbed sausage, which I reckon might be the first time I braved up to the prospect of trying it. It was.... a crumbed sausage. The sausage was a beef one, they had a decent crumbing on it, and it tasted okay. Nothing really here or there in the end.
About the only thing that was missing from the entire range of treats gotten was a fried chocolate bar to bring it to a delicious, and calorific conclusion. Nevertheless, that is never a necessity and all up it possibly was not the highest quality fish and chip meal meal, but the credit will definitely be given to the different style they were in. Portions are very big, given a fairly cheap price, and those are certain to feed a much bigger crowd on a short-term notice."
In beautiful weather you can even eat and drink in the outdoor area, And into the accessible spaces also come visitors with wheelchairs or physical limitations.

"A single level shopping centre with a wide variety of shops and services to make sure you can get all you want in one place. Parking is not a problem. There are two underground parking areas as well as above ground. There are so many eating choices I was amazed. There's also real estate, medical and health (pilates a gym), heaps of services from a dog washing to a post office. And of course plenty of shops from Woollies to jewellery. The layout is good although it's almost two centres joined together. I had to walk around on the pavement to get to each. Really worth a visit."
