"Each year when a group of us have visited Mudgee, I have arranged a dinner at the Wanderlight motel restaurant. This year, we had 26 people attending! The booking had been made a long time before but I was surprised that only 1 waitress was...on duty (someone else seemed to assist on occasions though). I understand new owners may have arrived since last year. The chef seemed to be dictating the terms of our visit and the previously agreed arrangement that separate dockets be done for couples and small groups to facilitate payment was dismissed when I arrived, despite it being suggested by the restaurant! I had even gone to the trouble of calling in the day before to confirm the arrangements! I was initially asked to collect the money myself for the entire group (which I refused to do as no-one would have the right money and some want to use a credit card). Somewhat reluctantly, they agreed to having a bill for each (large) table so people could identify there meals and pay at the end. However this was only done after I gave my personal guarantee to cover any leftover charges which I did. Having had large parties for 3 previous years, I was disappointed that it was suggested our group (mostly in their 60's) had little payment integrity. As expected, all charges were met. Because the chef demanded the orders be done as two large tables and not smaller orders, the food took an eternity to arrive (the strategy of individual dockets was to allow cooking to start rather than 2 huge dockets going into the kitchen). When the food arrived, it was not all that hot although still quite tasty. Sadly however, I got a lot of comments from the group afterwards saying they did not want to return next year as they felt the new owners had lowered standard of service and the enjoyment of the evening. What more can I say!"
