"We had one of the most interesting meals that we have ever had while traveling. First, we took the city bus (#6) from Trier because I intended to drink and did not want to drive. We knew the bus stopped running around 6 so we would have to walk back and, while it took about 30 minutes, it was a great walk.Anyway, the other reviews are correct that you will most likely be the only tourists in here. When we visited, the place seemed to be filled with locals. There were three tables of older guys playing cards, a big group at another table, a few couples and a few families. There was one waitress for the entire place.Neither the waitress nor the lady I believe was an owner spoke much English. I had reviewed the menu online prior to going so I knew what was on there. That helped when ordering. There was a big grill in the middle of the dining room that the older lady was tending.Now, I knew going in that we would have to wait. First, that is the case with most non-tourist places I have been to in Europe and, second, one waitress for the entire room was pushing it a bit. And it was a wait…she got there quickly for our wine and food order but it literally took an hour to get our first bite of food.Now, I know what you are thinking…that’s a deal-breaker…and it normally would be for us as well. However, as we waited as patiently as we could I started looking around and I realized that everyone in the place seemed to be spending their evening there. In other words, they weren’t going there to eat; they were going there to spend the evening and eat. After all, half of them were playing cards!Still, the time it took to get our food got to be a bit ridiculous…until we got the meal. The salad was good but non-descript. HOWEVER, we both ordered the rump steak and it was, without a doubt, one of the best steaks either of us had in years. We are talking U.S. prime good, the kind of good you pay $50.00 plus your sides for in the U.S. It wasn’t a fancy cut of meat; it was just really, really tender and perfectly spiced and cooked.On top of steak, the fried potatoes were out of this world. Easily some of the best I have ever had. The kind of good where when you take the first bite you are already saying, “there aren’t enough of these on my plate” even though there are.We both looked at each other and said, “the wait was totally worth it.” We literally could not believe how good the food was.So, here is what you have to do. Go ahead and plan for a wait. Bring your guidebook and go over what you will do tomorrow. Or, simply sit and talk and enjoy the wine (which was also really good). Or play cards like the others. Regardless, plan to wait….but know that you won’t care if your food was as good as ours was.During our wait, I think I did figure out WHY we have to wait. It wasn't the one waitress. The place is family-run and they seemed to work on each meal as they are ordered. So, when our turn came up, they prepared our salads, steaks, and potatoes.We literally watched her grill our steaks and they were the only two on the grill so our meal became her focus at that time. Perhaps not the most efficient way to cook but the results were undeniably good.So, we had two entrees plus wine and the total bill came to 55 euros. Totally worth the wait."

"Currently, the Mensa has a new concept after which it has a vegetarian or vegan main dish (men 1) every day and a vegan daily stew next to salad plates.
