"While walking the Camino, we decided to stop for the day in Navarrete. It was Sunday and most of the town seemed to be shut down. We stayed in the Posada Ignatius, a 15th Century home of a nobleman. We didn’t have reservations for lunch and the restaurant was completely booked for the entire weekend. Seeing our disappointment, the owner followed us up to our room and asked if we would be willing to eat in a “public area”of the hotel. We said we would. He then asked to come to the kitchen and said he couldn’t offer his regular menu for the day but would make anything we liked. We selected the fresh turbot (which was huge), vegetables, and desserts. The public area turned out to be a terrace on the roof of the inn with a view of the city and a table set just for the two of us. The meal was truly memorable, one of the best we have had anywhere in the world. The owner also took us to the wine cellar which is one of the original passages in the lower part of the nobleman’s home. It was an amazing place with bottles lining the passageway beyond the sight line. The entire experience was incredible, but more than anything the food was superb and the service impeccable. What a fantastic surprise on a quiet Sunday afternoon in a sleepy town of 2,000+ people on the Camino Frances. Highly recommended."
