"Over from the states fancied fish and chips, bought them and sat on bench on the river bank. It was just swimming in fat. Put in the bin just simply terrible. Kind people walking their dog suggested chip shop in town as the best and said golden palace is not typical. Now we know what fish and chips are beautiful."

"We came to this restaurant by chance today and were not disappointed. we had a wonderful lunch that was made even more pleasant by the cheerful, friendly waitress, the underlying institution and the Italian background music that created a very pleasant atmosphere. for the majority of our visit, which was on a wet Monday afternoon, we were the only customers in the restaurant and while in some places this could make them feel unhappyly self-confident, it was not the case here. the food was obviously freshly cooked and the aromene that came from the kitchen had our taste buds before we even saw the food. I had monks served with mushes, king prawns and calamari, as well as a bounny and rocket salat. my partner had the linguine with king prawns and we both agreed that our meals were delicious. there is a series of different seating areas, as well as a beautiful garden area. this is a fabulous place and worth a visit."

"This WAS arguably the better of Tiverton’s fish and chip shops, however, after changing hands recently it is a pale imitation of its former self. The elderly gentleman serving is forgetful and slow I had to repeat the order throughout to him as he...kept forgetting. Asked for a kids meal for my son which normally comes with a drink and sweet neither of which materialised. The food is of a poor quality. Tonight’s sausages were uncooked in the middle and had to be be recooked in the frying pan at home defying the point of a take away. And the least said about the dirt under the fingernails the better. Needless to say we will not be returning. Shame."

"I like Friar Tucks fish chips, but have found that sometimes the chips are the best I've tasted, this is more personal preference than something like for example foul tasting chips. "Went back to this place for the first time in several years it's been Duck and Bean since 2020. It's tucked away off the high street, but definitely worth seeking out. It was quite busy too, but there is seating outside as well as in. The food is really good delicious breakfasts and lunch options with incredible flavours. Recommend the ham hock hash for breakfast and the Monte Christo for lunch. Coffee was excellent too. Service fast and very friendly. Toilets are up some very steep stairs so not recommended if you need accessible ones it's an old building with thick walls so I had no mobile signal inside either, but these aren't complaints I really loved it. Will be back as often as I can!"
