"This was my first visit to La Marmite although it had been recommended to me several times. I made a reservation by telephone on the morning of my visit and i'm so glad I did as they had to turn away at least groups...before we were taken to our table. It's a compact restaurant with gentle lighting and a very French ambience (whatever that is). feel. I'd say it is a quality place but not too grand. Suitable for an everyday lunch and/or a special occassion. There were only around tables in the area where my friend and i were sat and i'm not sure if another room is available. The menu consists of quite a few price and size options. A la carte and Plat de Jour (express, course or course). The service was prompt but not hurried, the wine was good but not expensive and we were not rushed at all, (We took hrs to eat and settle the bill) I would describe the food as pleasant but the atmosphere and service made the whole experience wonderful. I will definitely go back. Thank you La Marmite for my birthday lunch"
