"Up front: I'm not from Portland, but I am extremely familiar with the sushi omakase scene in Seattle. This tasted familiar!We had a great time. I typically go for nigiri and chef's choice cuts, but the options for typical ready-to-serve rolls were delicious. We were treated well and even though we didn't sit at the bar they had a fantastic toro selection alongside some classic market selections. What I presume to be the owner came out and talked with us and it was very humbling! It is very scenically located next to a park and the neighborhood seemed so nice. We would definitely come back for another visit. Only giving it 4 stars because I feel like I'm cheating on our favorite sushi chef haha."

"I used to like this place because I could order on Grubhub while I’m at work but every single time I order they forget something, the hot food is cold or not fresh in general. I’ve asked for extra soy sauce in an order, received none and instead they gave me this disgusting orange mystery sauce that looks like it’s been sitting out getting old for a long time."

"Sushi Ichiban was the first restaurant I decided to try during my stay in Portland (the first and best decision that I could have made! I wouldn't have known that it was a restaurant from the outside, but inside was an extremely pleasant, inviting, and warm atmosphere that gave me high hopes for dining. I was wowed by the selection of sushi that they had to offer. Anytime that I can go to a Japanese restaurant and order traditional rolls like natto maki or oshinko, I know I've found the needle in the hay stack! If you want a conveyer belt sushi place that constantly has sushi ready for you, I wouldn't say this is the place for you. The workers take care in making the rolls and letting the customer choose rolls that they want made for themselves. I loved watching this process! It gave me time to think and let my food digest before I requested any more rolls. This restaurant knows exactly what they're doing when it comes to customer care and dedication to keeping traditional Japanese sushi alive. I cannot wait to come here again before I leave."

"I give 5 stars for the great customer service. The ramen is a serious PASS though. It was lacking serious flavor. I had to add pork soup base to my order at home, sad to say the proteins inside where not for me either. I probably wouldn’t even pay ten dollars for this ramen."

"One of the few places that opens late on weeknights. While the 'boats ' are cute, we usually just order off the menu in the evening, especially closer towards closing. The prices are definitely among some of the best for sushi. Unfortunately, we placed a order to take some stuff with us and were shortchanged an item, hence the 4 stars."
