"Arranged a breakfast meet with friends while in town. Got there late, 9am, but plenty of seats. Only 1 waitress, and 2 wait staff in a reasonably big place. The waitress was pleasant but not smiley, can guessed the reason. She has to do a...lot, Very slow in everything, except to be seated and 1st cup of coffee. The waitress brought over a carafe with coffee, an excellent idea, because after that 1st cup as when we seated down, the 2nd cup is most needed and the cup is dried. need more to awake us and need to come. There were 3 of us, but, we didn't finished the carafe of coffee! Breakfast items were not abundant, but each of us know what we want for breakfast, so we just ordered, not knowing it may not be on menu. But, waitress said it can be done. All ordered items were common items, just may not be put in our ways as they are printed on the menu. Food taste good and filling for breakfast time. Waitress never come by to check on us, but it is good as we want time to talk and not be bored every other min from the waitress. Décor of the place is simple, open space, and clean. However, the alarm went off during our eating, but, don't see smoke and no other guests/people moved out of the restaurant, waitress went to check on the alarm and came back poker face. She was not afraid or worried. So, we just ignored that, after a few min, it stopped and no fire truck, police, nor any emergency personnel came by, or nearby; we sat by the window, so we can see and tell if any emergency vehicles are approaching or arrived for rescue. When time comes for payment, she gave us 3 checks, presuming we want separated bills. To her surprised, one of the local friends has decided to treat us all. So, all 3 bills combined into 1 payment, he told her. She said can you add them together and bring them to the cashier to pay. I was shocked as I am not familiar with such practices in a sit down restaurant, It should be the waitress job to re-print into a single bill and come back to take our money or credit card by the table. The local guy does not mind and he brought 3 bills to the cashier and paid. None of us left any tip on the table, one guy commented, the person paying may add the tips onto the bill, I just assumed the waitress does not deserved much tip with her comment on the 3 bills into 1 payment and her requested payment style- to the cashier. Canadians are so much more calm than Americans! and they are more easy going as well!"
