"This little typical Yucatecan restaurant is located in the little town of Muna, about an hour out of Merida (40 miles out of Merida on the way to Uxmal. The tables are set bellow a thatched roof hut surrounded by trees, and attached to a little cabana which has an incredible Maya Art exhibition inside called Taller de Artesanias Los Ceibos . In fact, we found it by coincidence, stopping in Muna only to buy some Mayan art reproductions at Los Ceibos, but this fantastic little restaurant have been written in valuable newspaper, like the Los Angeles Time, in an article (It’s no sacrifice by Barbara Hansen in 1998, and in the “adventure guide to Yucatan, Cancun and Cozumel” by Bruce and June Concord. In that particular guide, it is stated that Chun Yaax-Che Restaurant brags about having the best food in Yucatan. Well I can confirm that their specialty is Pollo Pilbil made the Yucatecan old fashion way, which is chicken wrapped in Banana leaves with red achiote, tomato, onion and chile dulce, cooked for hours under katsin trees logs. We also tried different specialty on their menu like Lomo a la Yucateca, and Res a la Tampiquena. All was fantastic, tatsy and very well served. The Chun Yaax-Che restaurant is located up a side street before Muna central plaza, calle 13 No 201, colonia San Sebastian , Muna CP 97840. Telephone number is 997-971-0036 (at least last time we were there… and they are open daily from 9am to 5pm. The little art store next door is owned by the same family, Rodrigo and Patricia Martin who are renowned for their magnificent reproduction works of pre-colombian art I know this is the first review for this restaurant as there was no listing yet on Trip Advisor for Chun Yaax-Che, but I really hope and would like that trip advisor will trust my expertise as top contributor and create a listing for this restaurant as it would serve many travelers going through Muna, on the way to Uxmal, who don’t know where to stop for lunch."

"It must be a three star on the Michelin Guide. We have lunch next to David Guetta, nice people, nice music. Eating was amazing, really an unprecedented experience. Could change my life to come here every day. It's a joke, it was horrible. Special credit for the rice, which is cooked with the cooking sweat."
