"Small very simple place with a strange menu including naan pizzas, “hamburger soup”, “spaghetti with ketchup” and curry and rice. There is a vegetarian curry and rice as well as a meat option. I don’t speak japanese, but asked if it was vegetarian with no meat stock etc in english and the owner said it was. When it arrived it looked much darker than my husbands meat curry and rice so I don’t think it was from the same stock. The curry contained soy mince and some small bits of carrot and onion. It was fine, tasty enough. The interior of the cafe is not great not a place for lingering but friendly owners and a couple of vegan options on the menu, so I can’t complain! I think there were 2 vegan options curry rice or spaghetti with tomato sauce (rather than ketchup, I assume) and also omelette for veggies if you eat eggs. We only went here because Kappei Sushi nearby was closed at 1pm as ‘the rice had sold out’."

"Staying at Gora Kadan was a once in a lifetime experience and I will never forget it. It was the most luxurious vacation that I have ever experienced and I have NEVER had the level of service that their staff provided. It's pretty pricey, but I think it's worth it. The prices are per person, per night and include breakfast and dinner. I originally found out about them when I was emailing different ryokans in Hakone asking if they could accommodate vegans. They were one just a few that responded and said that they could. When I made the reservation, I noted our dietary preferences and they emailed me a few days later to ask specifics about ingredients and food preferences. They were very thorough and helpful. When we got there all the food was great and we could tell the chef tried hard to make our food flavorful and creative. We really enjoyed our stay and the food was great!"
For breakfast, you can enjoy a diverse brunch at Gora Kadan, as much as you want.

"Warm and friendly atmosphere! the staff was extremely helpful and cared for our well-being. we have a whole vegan dinner a d breakfast and it was delicious! we have indicated it in advance by e-mail and there was no problem at all in the opposite: it was excellent and lush. in general the ryokan was very clean and well maintained and our room was very quiet. the private onsen was fabulous (so no problems when they have a tattoo!) we come back at any time."

"Lovely hostel in Hakone not far from Gora station. We only stayed one night but really enjoyed our stay here. We used one of the onsen which was really nice after a busy day seeing the sights of Hakone. We also tried their pizza which was pretty good too. We stayed in a traditional tatami mat double room which was a nice experience with very comfortable futons and lovely views. Be warned, the walls are paper thin (literally) so it sounded like we were sharing a room with a very loud snorer! But we were so shattered we soon fell asleep, but bring earplugs if this might bother you. Staff were very welcoming and friendly. We would like to come back and stay longer next time as it seemed a very sociable place to relax in the evenings and also to try the other onsen!"
