"Staying at Gora Kadan was a once in a lifetime experience and I will never forget it. It was the most luxurious vacation that I have ever experienced and I have NEVER had the level of service that their staff provided. It's pretty pricey, but I think it's worth it. The prices are per person, per night and include breakfast and dinner. I originally found out about them when I was emailing different ryokans in Hakone asking if they could accommodate vegans. They were one just a few that responded and said that they could. When I made the reservation, I noted our dietary preferences and they emailed me a few days later to ask specifics about ingredients and food preferences. They were very thorough and helpful. When we got there all the food was great and we could tell the chef tried hard to make our food flavorful and creative. We really enjoyed our stay and the food was great!"
For breakfast, you can enjoy a diverse brunch at Gora Kadan, as much as you want.

"Warm and friendly atmosphere! the staff was extremely helpful and cared for our well-being. we have a whole vegan dinner a d breakfast and it was delicious! we have indicated it in advance by e-mail and there was no problem at all in the opposite: it was excellent and lush. in general the ryokan was very clean and well maintained and our room was very quiet. the private onsen was fabulous (so no problems when they have a tattoo!) we come back at any time."

"Delightful sushi place, the negitoro don was delicious and well-priced (1050 JPY). Loved the amberjack and inari sushi too. Staff were kind and the chef speaks English. They have an English menu too. Btw the opening hours are stated as 11am-8pm but they were sold out around 6pm (we arrived at 5.15pm). I believe they’re closed on Thursdays too. Cash only."

"We were staying nearby so we visited around 10 and it was almost full. It's all the grannies working so you can expect it to be good. There's an English menu so it's easy to order. We ordered the oyaku, tori and wild vegetable soba and each one of them was flavourful, umami rich and delicious. Special mention to the wild vegetable soba, there were fiddlehead ferns, mushroom, bamboo shoots and each one of them was naturally sweet. Totally would recommend it if you are in Hakone."

"I bought a box of 6 Hakone no Otsukisama for about 750¥. The staff seemed to be knowledgeable about what products went into the composition. They had other options that I sadly didn't get to try. The otsukisama were not my favourite, (I am not accustomed to the sugary taste), but it was nicely packed and would have made a great present for friends and family. "Everything was good here. The sashimi was very fresh, and the other dishes like the oden, doburi, beef curry rice, fried fish were amazing. To top it off, the waiter who was the kindest I have met in Hakone, offered us a plate of fresh sashimi."

"Got there right when it opened and I'm glad we did because this seems like a popular place with the locals, as seats filled up fast! Amazing tofu dishes and nice views of the river right next to the restaurant. I got the set meal and it was around ¥2300 which is about $16 US, so it's very cheap and fulfilling. It's walking distance from Hakone Yumoto station so it's definitely worth a venture!"
