We had one of the best lunches in a wonderful, centrally located but quite cafe in Aix en Provence. To access you need to go through a souvenir shop called The Chat Reveur in Place de l'hotel de Ville. Located up the stairs ,at the back of the shop, it is out of the crowds in the market place and it did not look as if the tourists have found it yet. It seemed to be full of locals. I love this humble little place - it was recommended to me by the AirBnB host I had last year, and I liked it so much I returned this year.

"It is a small restaurant with a small menu, it is usually not a problem. As I don't eat meat, I was limited to 1 entrance (Royal Shrimp) and 1 dish (mortized.) the shrimps were cooked and very well served, but with a little more research, they wouldn't have served shrimp with seed shoots, when you have them in the mouth, you don't know if you put shrimp tenticles in your mouth by mistake. The cod was served in coquotte with a very hot sauce made of potatoes, carrots and zucchini, ideal for winter, less good when it is more than 30°C. There were about 6 tables outside, 3 of them were occupied, including mine. some people tried to get a table and were repressed on the pretext that they had limited service capacity.
