"Food is of course amazing, tried hard not to compare with other Micheline star restaurants I ate before. The decor is too bright and cleache, we understand that we asked for substitutes and they kindly did provided for most part of the menu, I think that would have cost them more hence they didn't give us one dish, would have appreciated if they had substituted with another small dish or could have atleast given complementary water (water isn't cheap . The food is a great experience, world course is amazing faultless. Can't say the same for the signature dishes (may be not for my pallet . When it's 2 stars it's not just about food it's also about the whole experience. For a 2 Micheline star and at that price point, you would expect it to blow you away, but it comes a bit underwhelming, I must say. But definetly an experience, If you can you must try this place worth the drive and a visit."

"The food was really tasty we had a sharing platter, which offered a range of choices. The belly pork pieces were divine. The smoked sausage was tasty (shame you only get one! . There were sides too, so the whole thing was a really good meal. And you get a takeaway box if you want any leftovers later on! The service was excellent the lady (owner I think was really pleasant and helpful. The restaurant is a relaxed environment, pretty small with bench seating, and has lots of quirky steam railway memorabilia around the walls. Overall a fun place to eat especially for meat lovers!"

"Went on Saturday with family and had a beautiful meal with excellent service and atmosphere. Visited again tonight with my daughter for the set menu and it was beautiful, outstanding value. The food and service were outstanding. Can’t wait to visit again when we are next in the area."

"We were staying in Hamsterley overnight so booked the Cross Keys for dinner. Friendly staff, good food and a nice atmosphere. My scampi and chips was piping hot, good portions and tasty. My wife had the halloumi burger and she was happy with that too. Good choices for vegan, vegetarian and meat/fish eaters. We were too full for pudding."

"We’ve been coming to the George and Dragon as our “go to” country pub for a number of years and it never disappoints. IMO It’s the best country pub in the Darlington area for quality, quantity and value for money. Everything is always cooked fresh (and never frozen) including the chips! There’s always at least 2 decent handful beers available which are changed frequently. The haddock and chips take some beating."

"We were a party of adults so pre-ordered our fish, chips and peas the previous day. As the person who suggested this meal , a lot was riding on the quality of the food : we were not disappointed. Everyone raved about the quality and size of the fish , and the batter was amazing , so light and crisp. Despite a car journey back to the accommodation , the chips still tasted fresh and hadn’t gone into a soggy lump as from some shops , and even when going cold they were still tasty . Everyone voted this meal a great success . Well done to the Middleton in Teesdale shop; you deserve your national acclaim ."
