What TandTSwitzerland doesn't like about Zur Mägd GmbH:
Nice location, nice design, casual. Can get a bit loud when busy but nice atmosphere. Food is not really convincing. The salad as starter was plain (canteen style). The main, pork meat with Risotto, was not tender nor tasty and very heavy. Italian food on low quality level. Service is not very friendly, not attentive and slow. Sometimes it toook ages until we were ready to place an order. Disappointing experience....... View all feedback.
The food and service are truly outstanding. The price was okay too. I would love to come back.
The service was attentive at the beginning but unfortunately only at the beginning. In addition, people gossiped about our family behind our backs (1m away because no one understands Italian... . Peach ice cream was decorated with a plum and tasted more like plum than peach. Ordered Fernet and got something else. Water also had to be reordered several times.
We went to Zur Magd primarily for desserts and espresso, post-dinner. Our experience was great. We tried a number of house specialities and sorbets (Home made). The place had a lot of history and character to it. There is some history attached to the painter Hans Holbein as well. It is very close to the Rhine, right at the beginning of the Johanniterbrucke from Gross Basel side. It was full, loud and festive. Extremely bright-lit and with busy waiters and efficient service. They have a Day menu and some very interesting food on the regular menu. We loved the *Semifreddo di mandorle, pistacci amaretti, the Cherry and Prunes sorbet, Affogato and *Profiterole stracciatella. We plan to go there again for a complete meal experience!
