"General: Instead, the Ortenburg rises above the granite rock, on three sides surrounded by the Spree, it is the interesting center of the 1000-year-old Bautzen. In the middle of Ortenburg, surrounded by the historical and cultural atmosphere of the Sorbische Museum, the Oberverwaltungsgericht Bautzen and the new Burgtheater, the Burghof restaurant is located. In the ensemble of Ortenburg, the former building number 6, besides today's Burgtheater building number 7, the Langhaus, as well as the Schlosswasserturm, is to be regarded as a unit. The buildings once served as a prison, with the long house and the castle water tower already received this function from 1740. Today's restaurant and the Burgtheater were only in the middle of the 19th century. Built and used as a prison. The Burghof itself was torn down to the foundation walls at the end of the 90s and completely rebuilt by today's host. Numerous photos in the entrance area testify to the difficult reconstruction work. The Burghof has the restaurant with about 40 seats, the lounge (also smoker corner), the Matthias room with approx. 30 places that are probably mainly used for family celebrations, a conservatory with 60 seats and a large beer garden in summer. Service: A young lady was our service, which kindly greeted us and immediately brought the menu. For the beverage order, she left us some time to browse the map, and after the drinks were ordered, we had to browse the main ticket again. Unfortunate for us was that the young lady, while she always brought us two plates with our dishes, was cleaning up other tables in between. First, we had not all at the same time our food (that should be possible for 6 people, and secondly we felt it was not exactly pleasant that the dirty dishes were simultaneously cleaned. When we stumbled on a dessert in the main card, and unfortunately we found no ice cream, we finally ordered an apple strudel. When he was served, the young lady noticed that we could have got an ice cream card. This comment would have been more helpful before ordering! The food: The burghof has a winter map for the winter months, which contains many different dishes such as carp, deer, goose, sour roast and beef roulade. These are classic lunches for us and so we had to think for a while between the few remaining dishes which we want to eat for dinner. Also the appetizer offer has not really promised us. As soups there was only a clear soup with meatballs and a elder sweet potato soup. Other appetizers were then only available as a salad plate, and a relatively large Ragout fin with salad bouquet for €7.50, which was much too big as an appetizer. So we were not really satisfied with the selection of dishes, but ultimately we ordered Zurich's sprinklers(13.90 € , Wiener Schnitzel(13.90 € , mustard meat(children's portion>10.50 € ), the Grillpfanne Ortenburg(14.90 € , a salmon fillet and the Hirsch Sauerbraten). The plates were very well equipped, but mainly with the supplements. Here one should probably be fed with the potato columns and the salad, the steak pieces were a bit tedious for this price. In the salmon fillet the associated rice was dry and not edible. There was no response to a complaint on our part, not even an apology. The small tubules, which were placed as a supplement for the sprinkled and for the mustard meat, were spicy and tasted like the bush tubes from the supermarket. The late lions were greasy and pappy, the lumps rather remembered rubber balls. Too bad. The ambience: The Burghof is comfortably furnished, you have sufficient space to the table neighbours and also the other tables are not intrusively close. It was unfortunate that the smoking lounge is integrated in the restaurant, which is separated from the guest room by a glass wall and door. As many guests visited this area during the evening, it smelled very unpleasant for cigarettes. Cleanliness: There is nothing really to complain about cleanliness. Guest room and toilets were all right."
