The hotel can feel a little intimidating as it is, well, Grand in every sense of the word, but the staff were extremely friendly and not at all formal. Service was very unobtrusive and helpful at the same time advice on which tea to choose was welcome! The food was lovely, especially the scones which were warm and certainly felt freshly baked. Lovely setting and nice staff serving us but the food…. What on earth is their chef on?? The food was atrocious! Huge portions yes, but unbelievably presented and served and lacking in quality and flavour. Actually can’t put in to words how bad it was and for my Mums birthday too!
