Amazing location and view with good casual food like fish tacos, cheeseburgers, lobster BLT, pizzas. Casual dock side vibe in an old cannery building. Pier dining as well as inside for inclement days. View all feedback.
What Nils Demmert doesn't like about The Contented Sole:
Great view. Very nice staff. Food was good. Good beer on tap. $25.95 for probably a dozen very small fried clams is overpriced. Fish tacos were okay. Lobster and artichoke dip was good. View all feedback.
My husband and I operated a Waldoboro B&B for years. We didn't get out much. Our friends who operated a vintage diner in Gardiner had been visiting and posting about The Contented Sole for the past few summers. We tend to follow their recommendations. However,we couldn't get reservations with our limited days off until now! We were so fortunate to get the perfect table when my 94 year old Mom visited us recently. Our server was energetic and the hostess is so very accommodating and down to earth. We could NOT have asked for a better night out with our party of 5. Mom who traveled up from her assisted living campus in Florida, was treated to a table with a Maine sunset like the ones she loved when she lived here. She was amazed by the plentiful salad and the lobster roll was the best. My brother loved the blackend Brussel sprouts and prosciutto pizza. My husband devoured the tender juicy Korean BBQ Chicken like a starving cave man. My fish tacos were light and I loved the flavors with the sweet soft corn tortillas. I was happy that our server was able to help me decide between the tacos and the BBQ. The tacos were a nice light dinner and I didn't have to take anything home for later. Even my mom cleaned her plate!!!
Great food and great service!! The lobster roll was fantastic, if you like Brussel sprouts they are a must have, also the dirty fries for an appetizer.
This restaurant has the best atmosphere! Don't miss the pizza. It was a highlight. We had reservations and at out on the dock. Absolutely gorgeous.
Stopped in to have a lunch before heading out to see the Atlantic Puffins on a cruise. This restaurant is right on the water. You can watch all the boat traffic as you enjoy your meal. Family friendly with a great menu. They have seating indoors and out. The fish tacos were amazing. A must to get the locally grown oysters. So delicious.
Sadly Discontented. We loved our experience during the Summer 2020 but sadly we were very disappointed last night. What a change from one year to the next! The view remains lovely and the high point. Unfortunately Food and service were poor. First course oysters were served without napkins, share plates or silverware. We went inside to fetch our own. Oysters were dirty and gritty, far from delicious. Margarita pizza had sliced tomatoes on top, no sauce. The fish tacos we enjoyed last year, this year were dry and tasteless. Maybe it was just a down evening for them. I hope our experience was an anomaly and not a downward trend.
