Madrock is as much cultural experience as it is a restaurant. And we shared the experience with tables and tables of happy diners, grannies to babies, the terribly fit and the awfully lazy out for Sunday breakfast."

"My husband and I visited Brown's Restaurant in Whiteway, NL on Sunday, August 25, 2019. We were seated promptly by a friendly young lady. After reviewing the menu, we were surprised at the cost of the selections. Nevertheless, it was late in the afternoon, we...were hungry, so we made our choices. I ordered the Seafood Chowder for an appetizer at a cost of $11.95. This came in a small soup bowl and instead of the creamy chowder with bite sized pieces of seafood I expected, it was the consistency of porridge with small bits of seafood throughout. I asked if the chowder came with a biscuit and was told the biscuit/bun would cost extra, turns out when we paid the bill, the bun was an extra $1.50 which is outrageous. My husband had ordered Cod au Gratin for his appetizer, also $11.95. This was okay so my husband gallantly gave me the Cod au Gratin and took the chowder. For my main course, I ordered the Sauteed Scallops. The scallops came with a small baked potato, carrots and a few bits of red/yellow/green peppers. The scallops, although tasty, were cut in wedges/triangles, and for the cost of the dish $23.95, I would have expected several large scallops (I'm not entirely confident of the price because we did not receive a copy of the bill, just the Debit printout, and there doesn't appear to be a menu on the Brown's website, or at least not one I could find My husband had ordered the Pork Loin Chop dinner, again at around the same price as my entree. The chops were thin and tough and the vegetables were tepid. Although he mentioned this to the cashier, he regretted that he had not told the server. The cashier indicated he should have sent it back but we did not want to have to wait for the dinner to be replaced. I did bring it to the attention of the server that the chowder was of poor quality. The check came to nearly $100.00 ! Definitely not worth it. The one saving grace was the friendliness and attention of the staff."
