World famous in Wellington. The backbencher is on lower molesworth street opposite parliament and a few minutes walk from the bus and train stations. Attentive staff, good food at normal pricing. A variety of tap beers available. Gets very busy after work, so best to reserve a table for after knockoff drinks with colleagues. read more.

Terrible service for a great iconic place. We went at 4.30pm Friday. Staff really didnt seem to be engaged in service. They gathered around bar talking. Food great but, plates and glasses left for 1 hour we moved them ourselves. Will never bother going back again when Wellington is full of experienced and caring staff. read more.

Probably at the higher price end compared to the rest of the coffee shop we have checked out but definitely a good spot to sit and relax after exploring the sea...

Lunch at the newly refurbished Backbencher today, with every meal receiving a 5/5 star rating! I had the roasted cauliflower bowl- not sure of exact details but...

"We have been going to Pandan since they were in Tawa. As a family who love Malaysia and local food, this restaurant is better than local Malay, we feel so lucky they are only 20 main away from Johnsonville. "Terrible service arrived 5 minutes early to the booking at 8pm and table was not ready so we had to go outside and wait. there was a 55 minute wait on the mains and 40 minute wait on dessert by the time we had finished it was past 10pm. food was great but wasn't at all worth the wait. the bill was super expensive and we felt ripped off. we ended up feeling very disappointed and let down, as we were looking forward to going to a nice restaurant. ive previously worked in hospitality and id be really embarrassed making patrons wait more than an hour for food. not on the wait staff but a pretty bad reflection on management. apart from this, serivce was friendly and drinks were good just a shame that the massive wait times put a damper on the night."
