"Went for a birthday dinner for my husband, curious to see what Afghan food was like. We were not disappointed! The waitress was friendly and knowledgable regarding the menu and how many dishes to order and the food was delicious, similar to North Indian but less spicy. A lovely relaxed evening, and for the amount of food we had, very reasonably priced. BYO a bonus but they are also licensed. Recommended."

"We have been here before and really enjoyed the food, however were left disappointed this time around. Firstly, I ordered an Iced green tea which was So I was expecting a nicely brewed iced tea with maybe a slice of citrus. What I received...was a cold glass of water with a green tea bag in it. I am fine with this option, but do not expect to be charged for a teabag! We ordered the vegetable dumplings, and vegetable tempura to start. The tempura was really nice, fresh and crispy as it should be. The dumplings were average, quite soggy and to be honest not much better than the frozen ones from the supermarket. The filling was soggy and had no texture. For our main we ordered beef bulgogi and japchae to share. Firstly I was surprised when we were asked if we would like our bulgogi, mild, medium or spicy. Bulgogi is not a curry, it is the way it is. Should be a sweet, savoury barbeque dish. We ordered it medium and it was medium, but it seemed like they had just dumped a spoonful of chilli paste in it and it was orange in colour. The japchae was probably the worst japchae I have had. There were hardly any noodles, and it was FULL of carrots. You would be hard pressed to find any other vegetable let alone glass noodles in that dish. The taste was nice but we left most of the dish (carrots) behind. On the positive side, the service was good, we were able to book a table at short notice and the waiter who served us was very friendly and accommodating. We did raise our concerns with him regarding our meal and he was very understanding and assured us he would advise the kitchen. Its a shame because the location is nice, and the staff are great but the food really let it down this time and we will not be back."

"Ate there in a party of 5 people - took the Thursday night tasting plate menu at $39 per head. Good value and the highlights being the beef (which we upgraded with great chips) and the chocolate dessert.Took our wine and paid $10 per bottle surcharge.The front bar looks really nice and suited to couples while the backroom is more suited to groups.We would all go back to The Barrel - a really nice night out."
