We had a big table with lots of different ages - everyone was happy. Great food and location. Popolo faces a large open area so restless kids can spill outside without interfering with the vibe of the restaurant.
The battered olives were positively sinful as was the truffle mozzarella - and thats just for starters. Really delicious and authentic Italian food. The service is also very good - a nice change fro the usua... View all feedback.
What Heiko Fritsch doesn't like about Popolo:
I ate here a few years back when it first opened and it was really fantastic, with a great buzz - perhaps because it one of the new hot places to go. But this recent visit, whilst nice enough - it definitely didn't have much of a buzz (and it was a Saturday night). We had a really great and friendly waiter (Scottish I think?) - so the service was very good. The food was nice - but nothing all that special - there are... View all feedback.
Cannot rave enough about the great food, fabulous service and wonderful wine Popolo prepares for its guests. We had a wonderful Calzone, a range of Salamis, lamb chops and so much more.
The food at Popolo is rich but delicious. Between two people, we started with the 'Crocchette' and the 'Verza' salad. The croquettes were filled with well-seasoned eggplant and served with a spicy tomato sauce - a good way to start off the meal. The salad was made up of shaved cabbage, sultanas and walnuts, and would be good to share with a larger table (we struggled to finish it between two.) For main, we shared one pizza. The pizza served at Popolo is traditional style, flavourful base with simple toppings. We ordered the interesting 'Contadina' which has an artichoke cream base + zucchini, fior di latte and stracciatella (two kinds of cheese). Everything was unique and tasty, definitely worth a try if you're looking for a more interesting (but still fairly traditional) take on Italian food.
Small menu but great food. The pizza was great. I got the squid ink pasta, it was slightly salty but definitely interesting. Wouldn't recommend that dish if you are on a date. It won't be a pretty dish to eat.

Love love love this restaurant. I've never had a bad experience and the food is divine! Great for romantic dinners or special occasions or when you desperately need a fix of Southern Italian food!
