I have visited this cafe a view times within the past couple if months and on every occasion have found it to be excellent. The food is very good with a good variety of options and is excellent value for money. The staff are very efficient and helpful and nothing is too much trouble. I have recommended it to a number of friends and will continue to do so. View all feedback.
What FussyEater73 doesn't like about The Garden Cafe:
Called in for a coffee and a snack before our train ... ordered for 6 of us .. coffee hot chocolate tray bakes etc... they started to make this for us then asked what tour group we were with ... we weren't with a tour and we were politely told that the coffee shop was only for your parties... we left! Not sure what they were going to with 6 half made hot drinks! Welcome to the Downpatrick welcome centre!! View all feedback.
The cafe is large and self-service. For lunch, I enjoyed quiche, a variety of salads, stew, soup, and wheaten bread. The morning coffee and fresh scones were delicious. The restaurant is clean and well-maintained. Some of the staff have learning disabilities, but they are well-trained, supervised, and do a great job. They are friendly and always pleasant. The cafe has a view of the garden, and on nice days, you can dine outdoors.
Called in for lunch for 2, bright pleasant atmosphere. With striking gardens. Fortunately the mind numbing loud music was off today hopefully it will stay off. Food is fairly good and very reasonably priced. Yes I would recommend. Staff that served me were excellent and showed great customer care skills which for me means leaving a good tip. Frequently visited by overseas callers giving an international ambience. I wish the cafe well.

Called for lunch here recently, I asked what I thought was a shrimp sandwich. At £8 I thought I couldn't be an incoming. But not a slate came to my table with the smallest glass to drink 3 4 full of crumpled lettuce a spoon full of shrimp covered with sauce with a Marie Rose spoon and a wheaten piece. I can't eat outside a glass. I ordered a plate. They gave me a dish that in their reflection was more than enough for the full meal. When the waiter came to pick up the dishes and asked if everything was okay. I told him my food was a very small portion. In justice he offered me another 1 and then I refused again to offer a coffee. While we appreciated the waiter's effort to solve my disappointment and hunger, the problem came from someone above him to decide his price structure and control of portions. They only give me 30 minutes to eat and they don't have time to wait for the kitchen to keep the shipment of meals in a glass until it becomes a proper meal. Not adjusted or greedy, but neither did my colleague even think it was ridiculous.
I went to lunch with my sister and brought the kids along. We ordered a chicken burger and a beef burger, both cooked perfectly with delicious toppings. The kids enjoyed their chicken and chips, which is rare as they are picky eaters. The only downside was that the waiting staff could be friendlier and more welcoming. It would also be helpful if they were familiar with where customers are seated, as it was a bit off-putting to see our food wandering around before finally reaching our table.
