I'd heard good things about this bakery and thought I needed to try it when next in Edinburgh. Well it didn't disappoint. We sat in with the dog (always a bonus), had a round of buns, doughnuts and coffee all of which were fab. I then also bought some amazing focaccia which I'm surprised to say did make the train journey home but was demolished when I got back. Since then I've been back again and was not disappointed... What Carey Batz doesn't like about The Bearded Baker:
DO NOT RECOMMEND FOR VEGANS OR GLUTEN INTOLERANT! Came all the way with a friend, I’m vegan and she’s gluten free. The website said there was gluten free bread and vegan options for sandwiches. Arrived and there was not a single thing that was gluten free, and there were no vegan options. The menu was not even remotely the same as the one online. I appreciate that the staff scraped together incredible to make a glute... View all feedback.
A wonderful place to lunch. would be great to see more vegan hearty options, but what they have is great. loves the different tasteful cinnamon rolls!
Had only a vegan hearty option when I left, but it was so good: dried tomatenfocaccia filled with artichoke and rocket. 3 different vegan rolls available (chocolate haseluss, pistachios and zinammon). only tried the pistachios, but loved it!
First time visitors from Puerto Rico. A cozy little blue painted bakery tucked between other establishments. Fresh, delicious homemade baked goods. Ordered the pastrami on bagel, bagel w/ cream cheese, filled doughnuts cinnamon rolls. All excellent. The coffees hot chocolates were tasty too ! Coming back for more before our vacations are over ! Gotta try the pain au chocolat !!!
Randomly stopped at the Bearded Baker in need of some coffee on a walk through Edinburgh. This little cafe was great! While the inside is quite small, I was lucky to grab a table for myself and two friends. Note that likely because it is small, it costs slightly more to sit in than to take your order to go. However, no matter how you decide to eat your order it is definitely worth it. The cafe is decorated wonderfully, and there is honey, little plants, and other small gifts for sale. We ordered a cappuccino, a latte, a raspberry donut, a chocolate hazelnut donut, and a reuben on a bagel. Everything was absolutely delicious. The cappuccino and latte were creamy and delicious. The donuts were some of the best we ever tasted, with fluffy pastry and decadent fillings. The sandwich was also fresh and super yummy. Service here was also great and very friendly. I would highly recommend grabbing a bite here! Bearded baker truly masters what they offer- bagels, donuts, and coffee!
Visited a few times over summer 2023 on one occasion my sister and I indulged in a little too much mary jane beforehand and started to freak out a little when ordering. The guy behind the counter was super friendly and calming. He suggested I try the cold brew with an orange slice in it and it was delightful. I often think about how poorly that interaction could have gone had we been served by someone less chill. Thanks, mystery man! There are angels everywhere, and you were ours that day. Solid doughnut as well, though taste was definitely amplified by aforementioned mary jane. On another note, the filled bagels while yummy are slightly overstuffed and we found the ratio of cream cheese to mackerel a bit off. Not a massive complaint, maybe just a preference.
