"Have been on my list for a couple of years, finally came to try it for dinner on a Saturday night. We left it a bit late to book & only time available was for an early dinner, which we didn't mind. Very simple decor design, could be quite tranquil except for the hip pumping music they had playing. We had a small table to ourselves rather than the big communal table. The menu is bit short vs the average Japanese restaurant, about 3-5 selections for each of entrees, raw, tempura, noodles/rice, meat, veg & desserts. Some items seem fairly standard, yet some are interestingly confusing.... We tried a mix.
For entree we had the Pork Katsu steamed buns. The bun itself was quite fluffy & soft. The pork katsu was crunchy & juicy, the spicy mayo just gave it a hint of heat. One of the better steam bun offer in Sydney (still think Mr Bao is better). For raw we got the special, which was a yellowfin tuna with an avocado purée served on a fried wonton wrapper. Inventive, and the wonton wrapper was crunchingly enjoyable, but overall it's a little dry just need a bit of soy to add a bit of moisture. We then tried the mysterious Japanese Bolognese, which actually taste nothing like a Bolognese. It was an udon stir fry with mince and a sweet savoury sauce. It was actually very delicious, just has no hint of tomato & not Bolognese. For meat we got the wagyu beef, which really is just a piece of chopped up beef, with a sweet thick soy based sauce. A nice piece of meat, but not still some way to be top notch.
After seeing so many food review on the dessert, particularly the green tea soft serve, was super disappointed that they no longer have it. The alternative of the sour plum swirl soft serve was not good, it was just plain soft serve (too icy) with some sour plum sauce drizzled on. The matcha tiramisu was generous in size, it was very creamy with a strong matcha taste, mostly from the dusty on top. The best part of the desserts was definitely the black sesame ice cream mochi, for once the mochi was just a thin layer with plenty of ice cream inside.
Overall it was a nice dinner, but didn't feel it was quite hat worthy."
