"Altair is a beautiful warm restaurant with very organised staff and attentive service. Wine and coffee are excellent. Food presentation is incredible. However, we have been several times now and each time the meals have been either flavourless or the flavour combinations don't quite come off with certain ingredients overpowering the dish. Prices are on the high side aligned with presentation - not excellence of the dish. If the taste and flavours of the food could be improved this restaurant would be unstoppable."

"After a few weeks in Japan, I was dying for a good curry. And the ‘burbs’ can pull it off with a traditional Thai meal that satiated my yearning. We came for a celebration on a Friday night with no booking and the lovely staff managed to get us a table for 5. Sontaya is located at the top of the shopping centre in Eltham and with full patronage on the night, it has a popular following. <br/>We ordered an array of dishes such as roti, satay skewers, chicken and cashew curry, coconut rice and more. The portion sizes were good and the rice was perfectly light and fluffy. <br/>The staff were helpful and patient as we ordered plenty of food. The restaurant is BYO but you can also order wine as well. <br/>Note: Wheelchair accessible. Kid friendly. Good parking nearby. Takes credit cards. Take away menu available."

"After many visits here, finally had some of the amazing food rather than just coffee and drinks and it definitely didn't disappoint. each and every one of the staff members are absolutely lovely, warm and welcoming on all occasions and happy to accomodate each request or requirement. being the morning of a weekend day, the atmosphere was full of hustle and bustle yet not too noisy or overwhelming. it was a fifteen minute wait before being seated, however a cute arrange of gifts available for purchase as well as newspapers help pass the time.<br/>service was flawless, coffee was perfect and all of the meals were delicious. this is a lovely cafe for a local brunch and undoubtedly, shall be visited again."

"This used to be a great place to eat. Unless something changes I don’t see this venue surviving in the future. We used to be fairly regular customers but won’t be returning. The food used to be great. The tastes used to be inspiring, the...textures wonderful. The menu used to be interesting. I hate to give this kind of feedback but am doing so with the best of intentions something needs to change. The food was poorly cooked and very uninspiring. All five in my party had a similar opinion. On paying for our meal we went as far as giving verbal feedback also I’m sure many will understand this is challenging to do. We were told this would be passed on, but the response to (carefully phrased and hopefully very polite) critical feedback wasn’t what might have been expected. Not dismissive, but little or no interest shown in understanding our feedback in more detail. I understand from one of the staff that there has been a recent change in ownership, and that this change has been beneficial for the staff. But based on our experience this evening the change in menu and the change in food quality isn’t a positive at all. A venue that used to be a nice tapas restaurant now seems to be a poor quality pizza and pasta restaurant. I really hope, for the benefit of the owners and staff as well as for the benefit of the Eltham community, that there is a return to form in the near future."
