"We have a new winner. The best little restaurant in the South East. Run by folks who care. That small town charm is the secret ingredient."

"We entered the restaurant with two children under Always a nerve wracking feat when you wish to fine dine. Restaurants can turn up their cheek to us but not Wild and Native. We were greeted by a waitress who told us to try to book online and that they opened in We stepped out in the front porch to try to book online. They were booked solid as it was a Friday night. Not a moment later the chef stepped out and chatted to us briefly and within minutes he had us at a table ready to dine in We were ever so grateful! Our children are used to dining out and are very well behaved but it was still a pleasure to be feeding them before they may interrupt a restaurant filled with distinguished guests. The chef set us up straight away with some home made breads for the kids to tuck in. They were divine! Both white and brown breads were very fresh, flavourful and exactly what you hope for in an Irish bread. We had the mussels to start and the sauce, while simple, was exquisite. Fresh seafood sourced well doesn’t need any saucy flare. Keep it simple and let it speak for itself. The leftover sauce was splashed into our daughter’s plain pasta noodles and gobbled up happily by both our girls. We had the Brill and also the scallops and prawn for mains and a bottle of French Picoul wine. This paired nicely as the crisp wine cut the delicate sauces on both seafood dishes. Local Spuds steamed as a delicious side. In both dishes the seafood was cooked to perfection. Sauces accompanied the seafood like a supporting act just as they should. The chef came out to check on our meals and was very kind to offer our daughters some complimentary hot chocolate drinks. He was clearly also the owner and ran a tight ship despite the lack of staff that the country is facing due to covid changing the landscape.Overall our experience at Wild and Native was divine. While not a typical family restaurant, it was a meal that we could relish and enjoy because we have well behaved littles who are growing into quite the foodies themselves. I wouldn’t recommend this place for children who can’t sit still or can get noisy. But for a foodie family that enjoys fine dining, this is just the place to taste some local Irish food at its finest. Thank you for such a wonderful and delicious evening out!"

"Group dining is not the best basis for judging a restaurant. Our experience was that mass catering is not necessarily a forte here. The service was quick and efficient but the precise care needed for fine dining was missing when dealing with a large group. Perhaps it’s better when a small number. The menu was imaginative but just failed to deliver on quality. The staff were very helpful. It wasn’t a disaster by any means."
