Russell's Fireside Dining Room At Lake Mcdonald Lodge

We stayed in a Snyder hall room because we really just wanted a place to sleep between our planned long day hikes. The floors and walls of our room were dirty. The communal shower was filthy. The mattress felt as though it had been there since 1985, my husband and I constantly rolling into the center divot. We decided we’d have rather just car camped because our car air mattress is far superior in comfort compared to the horrible mattress that was in the room. The lodge itself was neat/historic. Front desk staff very friendly.

It’s a quaint rustic historical hotel, that has some challenges (since it’s old) but the lodge is backwoods elegant and the location is great because you are IN the park. The lake is beautiful with amazing mountains all around. They have a boat tour service and a bus tour service to get you all around the park without having to worry about parking (which can be a challenge on busy days) and the convenience on jumping on/off throughout the day is nice.Very nice front desk staff.The restaurant is nice but the line forms early (like 6:30am) for breakfast. They don’t sell coffee to go/just coffee, but rather you have to sit down to a table to get breakfast and coffee which is a pain.VictorB

Great place to base from for hikes!The cafeteria nearby stays open when the lodge’s restaurant closes and it’s pizza/salad buffet is well worth it after a long day’s hike!Plenty of places to sit comfortably inside and outside even if not staying at the lodge.

This place needs a deep clean and an overhaul of the staff (friendliness and customer care). Location and history makes this place great but this place could be really amazing and has so much more potential. It would then be worth the price. Food was decent but not great for the price. Coffee was good.

I didn’t stay at the hotel. I was in the motel down the road. We ate all of our meals at the lodge. Restaurant staff, food and atmosphere were wonderful. The huckleberry ice cream, pie and drinks were quite the treat. The breakfast buffet had fresh fruit and wonderful bacon. The coffee was a little below average. Overall a pleasant surprise.
