Staying in Panzano, we were looking for a place to eat after a spectacular sunset. We saw this Hole-in-the-Wall pizza place and decided to try it out. "I was a little concerned given some of the very critical reviews, but we had a FANTASTIC experience seated on the top floor where they served the Officina menu, which offers more cuts of meat and seems like an absolute steal for 50 Euros. The steak tartare was better than any we have ever had. Other excellent cuts were the beef belly, the Etruscan cut (like hanger steak), and the Bistecca Florentino (t-bone). These were all juicy and delicious. The Panzanese cut lacked flavor and was a bit chewy, but still good. Came with very drinkable Chianti. And the olive oil cake was also delicious. Would go back in a heartbeat. I see people complain that he doesnt use the famous Chianina beef. Well we tried that the night before, and while it looked beautiful, it was too tough, not tender and lacked flavor. Which is why Cecchini doesnt use it!! And our fellow diners were overwhelmingly Italians. We sat with a charming couple who had driven that morning from Turin. So not mobbed by ignorant tourists like me (although I live in NYC and we know a thing or two about steak)."

"We have been dining here for over years, have had dozens of meals, entertained many, many guests, but our meal here this month was lackluster. This has gradually turned into a massive tourist destination. We were the only other Italians there. The wine list still is a major selling point. Their prices and selection are wonderful. For the very first time we did not order the Fiorentina and ordered Tagliata in different preparations. It was good but not their Fiorentina steak. We had a variety of appetizers, the artichokes being the most refreshing before the steak. Service has always been sparse here, but in post coivd times, it is impossible to get someone to take your order or even to get a bottle of water. We waited for over minutes to order. They used to serve their chantilly cream in a fluted glass with fresh fruit, now they serve it in a large water glass with a prepared fruit reduction, it is heavy and a drag at the end of the meal. NOW the problem, foxes, big ones. This is a serious issue someone should call the forest ministry on. There used to be lots of harmless cats wanting a bite of steak. Foxes have very strict regulations in Italy and these animals are freely walking up to patrons in the restaurant as if they are cats. They have a playground for children that used to be popular, but I would never let my children play down there with the large foxes that are now present! Things need to change."

"Family run restaurant that delivers excellent service and great food. Made a reservation one day in advance for two. Wanted to enjoy dinner and see the sunset as they are great to view from Panzano. We arrived and had a table right on the edge of the raised patio. Under a neat tree and with a fabulous view of the sunset. Enjoyed bistecca from Mario the butcher and tasty pasta. The local house chianti was excellent."
