Hotel du Pont - Groléjac

Great food and service! our favs, tournedos de pied cochon (pork trotters) packed in bacon, served with pan-fried foie gras and the andouillette. also the “delete”... deep fried small fish from the Dordogne River. our goal.

The HDP, as we like to call it, is utterly UTTERLY french. Living in the village, I 've come here several times. Whether it 's for a great shot off coffee, a wonderful meal, or a couple of nights away from the kids... it 's never a disapointment....The wifi is good and it 's been the heart of the village for the last 40 years at least. Monsieur fishes the little fish from the river and serves them up fresh for you. If he 's not wiping glasses at the counter (so French), or cutting the hay field (so French), he 's in the kitchen creating wonderful, simple, fresh food from scratch (so, soooo French). All around Sarlat, industrially produced dishes are the bane of the restaurant industry, and everywhere everything tastes the same. Not so at the HDP. It 's really excellent food, free of chemicals, just locally grown and freshly prepared next door. They make no fanfare of this. The price is as reasonable as it gets, but it 's what we locals call 'genuine ' food. I 'd rather eat here off clean linnen than some fancy table with triangular plate and fussy table 'dressing ' that serves foreign factory food for rip off prices, in Sarlat. Madamme is a fantastic combination of French aloofness (no but really sooooo French) and physical perkiness. English travellers do not understand that not saying 'Bonjour ' whenever you see someone is even more rude as forgetting a 'please ' or a 'thank you ' in the UK. If you remember this common courtesy, she will blossom into warmth and charm. There 's also an excellent wifi signal and traditional babyfoot and pool table to keep the kids happy. At Christmas there 's a diorama that is utterly magical. These are good people working hard on the hotel and the land around it. The hotel itself has possibly seen better days, but who cares, you can be absolutely certain that it 's spotless and the prices are excellent. The back terrace is covered in vines, there 's a wisteria that 's like a secret portal to another realm in the back garden, and I 've known them come to the rescue of wet, stranded travellers on a rainy night.

Took evening dinner on three occasions at Hotel du Pont, Grolejac. Good varied menu. Very reasonably priced Fixed price 3 course meals priced from €13. All freshly cooked and well presented. Good wine list also reasonably priced. Great ambience on the outside terrace....Overall the interior of the hotel looked comfortable, attractive well kept. Did not stay there but would love to give it try. Most certainly recommend the restaurant good food, pleasant staff, good service, good prices.

Both menus are very good value if you don 't want to eat à la carte . The slightly more expensive one had a starter of freshly caught local river fish fried in garlic delicious. The steak was beautifully cooked. Good service in a simple environment.

The menus here reflect the typical gastronomy of the Périgord Noir with les petits poissons being a great favourite. The family-run hotel and restaurant exudes period charm and we believe the frites here are to die for. Highly recommended. The rooms are spacious and gracious...too. What a gem.
