"We were staying locally, and Russell's was recommended by our hosts. There was clearly some nervousness, because it was so soon after lifting of Covid restrictions, but the proprietors had prepared well, and we enjoyed a lovely evening – in spite of a pompous prat in a kilt, who tried to insinuate that we were invading his personal space by being in Scotland. Turned out he was an English surgeon from Inverness, 80 miles away! The food was great, too."

"Well where do I start! We booked at 3pm for a 7pm table. No other bookings in diary should have rang alarm bells! So we arrive, are taken to a table, we are sat in the corner of what can only be described as a room with tables! There was no background music, no pictures on the walls nothing! Wipe clean glittery table clothes that felt sticky. We were handed a menu card, my partner asked if there was a set meal which was met with a glazed over look! We ordered a bottle of wine between the three of us. Then ordered starters. When they came out we asked for them to be laid out across the centre of the table and for extra plates so we could share starters! This again was met with a glazed over look, but we got the requested plates. Shortly later the most bizarre moment I have ever come across in a “restaurant” happened! A gentleman dressed in full Lycra suit came through the centre of the restaurant along with his pushbike! He stopped had a conversation with another customer and then carried on his merry way. At this point we asked for our bill. To our amazement the staff were shocked we didn’t want to stay for mains! The whole experience set us back £40 for three starters and a bottle of Pinot! It is the quickest I have ever drank a bottle of wine! Most definitely do not recommend and won’t be back!"

"Gem on a country road. Retro cute. Overpriced, maybe? But, that’s the way it is in Fort William. The rooms are modern. Quiet. Very clean and comfortable. Really warm throughout the premises. Constant hot water supply with high pressure. Beautiful garden. The hotel staff are amazing. We really enjoyed the dinner and the breakfast. Food came out so fast! We really appreciated the inn’s high standard upkeep and their genuine service. There are only 10 rooms. Two have barrier-free access. Others need one flight of stairs to access."

"Beautiful place. gets pretty busy and it wasn't the fastest service. if they are on one of the day tours with a time limit, it cannot be the best bet. we enjoyed a drink, fight and one of our party got the fish and chips. the personal was super friendly."

"An unexpected gem. Very good coffee. Friendly staff. An astonishing array of goods and souvenirs. The business was cratered by Covid but has been revived. It deserves recognition as a destination in its own right. The cafe area was obviously set up (originally? to cater for bus loads of visitors but we had it pretty much to ourselves. The coffee was excellent. We did not have any food, so cannot comment. The shop element is enormous. It has a huge range of clothing from “normal everyday” to dress up Scottish kilts and the accoutrements. There is a huge collection of woollen wear of various brands from jumpers to scarves to capes and the like. The souvenir section is as diverse as anywhere I have seen in the last month of travel in Scotland and has ranges of them I have not seen previously. An indication of the breadth is that the range of Macintosh souvenirs is better (wider, more representative and more interesting than those in the museums in Glasgow which have dedicated exhibitions of his work. Well worth a journey. It is only 11 miles from Fort William."
