Sensational food and service, always super happy and friendly, have eaten here multiple times and can not fault. Food was hot and fresh, will return and recommend! View all feedback.
What Heber Gaylord doesn't like about Hudson's of Dickson:
Both meals were extremely flavorless, poached eggs on the eggs Benedict were barely cooked with the white still being runny, hollandaise sauce was flavorless and everything felt fatty. Left most of the meal and wouldn't recommend unless you want a fast coffee boiling hot. View all feedback.
I have been to Hudsons a couple of times recently (between first and second ACT lockdowns) and must disagree with the hostile reviews. I find the service friendly and quick the food good and generously portioned.
We are Canberra locals. Huge foodies. We avoid this place like the plague. Once every two to three years we try it again, either because we hope it’s gotten better or we forget how bad it is, sometimes both because of the beautiful location. Today...it was the former as we haven’t been here in three years and couldn’t think of much else open. Menu and food was exactly the same. Stodgy, pre- prepared hospital food. I had the Chicken Parma and a banana smoothie, dad had the sea food basket and mum had the nachos. Dads sea food basket is supposed to come with tartare sauce and lemon wedge, it came with neither. Upon requesting them, they had no idea what we were asking, until all three of us were basically pointing and shouting at the menu. Tartare sauce then came with the lemon wedge (it was the end part of the lemon, making it difficult to squeeze) both were basically plonked onto our table. Don’t get me started on my banana smoothie, which they had used over ripe bananas to make. And left the little black think in the drink. It left a horrible coating in my mouth as I drank it. The lady behind the counter was friendly, but the rest of the waiters were not and had very limited English skills (our waiter got such a fright when we asked him something, I think they just hope that no one talks to them). Which brings me to my last point and the biggest issue in today’s climate.. no COVID check in, at all. No distancing between tables either. Every cafe and restaurant we have ever been to since COVID hit Australia has made some attempt to keep COVID safe. Even in teeny tiny small country towns have a written check in book. But Hudson’s in Dickson had NOTHING. Considering it’s the first suburb you hit when you enter Canberra from Sydney, let’s hope no one has snuck in that way.
My friend and I stopped in for a quick lunch the service was very friendly and quick. Our salad sandwich (made to order) and salad were fresh and delicious.
Went here with our and year old. Great traditional menu and family friendly. Counter service and food was ready in lightening speed. Had the Hudson breakfast which came with a coffee fresh orange juice. Great coffee and delicious scrambled eggs. Massive servings!...This is a no fuss, simple breakfast place. Will be back.
