"Mouth watering butter(benne) dose from this place. This place is just in-front of medical college. Sometime you have to wait as there will be crowd. We tasted benne dose as well as khali dose here. The taste is amazing."

"In Davanagere, you will find restaurants and stalls that serve benne dosa in every nook corner. And each of these restaurants claim that they are the benne dosa pioneers and that only they serve the ‘original’ benne dosa! But that distinction belongs to one Mahadevappa Benne Dosa Hotel which first started way back in the year 1928 It is still in operation today the 3rd generation is running it. Mr Ravi, son of Mr Mahadevappa (who learnt the recipe First from his mother Chennamma) now runs this Hotel hence its called by his name now. Benne Masala dosas were actually cooked in Raagi (finger millet) Flour in the beginning! A decade later in 1938 the present avatar of Rice Flour cooked Benne Masale Dose came into being and still in existence to this day! Till the 1970s a single khali (plain) dosa was getting retailed at 10 a benne (butter) dosa was getting retailed at 40 paise each The place is little crammed no frills. You can feel the aroma of dosas getting prepared in your nostrils which is hypnotic and makes your latent hunger within, come to the fore! They have many variations of dosas which you can hog on. Prices are still very competitive when you compare them to metro tier 1 City pricing! Over all a very good and paisa vasool experience indeed Join our food journey. "One of the few things which I enjoy whenever I visit Davangere is the Benne Dosa . On this street there are many Sagar Benne Dosa Hotels which are started by their brothers, but the Old Sagar Benne Dosa Hotel , stands out for its taste. In my last trip, I visited this hotel in the afternoon at 3 PM. I enjoyed eating Benne Kali Dosa very much but the Set Dosa was not up to my expectations. Somehow I felt that the taste had come down. Even the “Coconut Chutney” was not as hot and spicy, when compared to my previous visits. I have been visiting this hotel since years, but I am yet to see any improvement in their cleanliness or hygiene. In fact, most of the Benne Dosa hotels in Davangere have the same standards."

"Sit in an auto and inform the auto driver to take you to the “Medical college – Benne Dosa Hotel” and you will land right in front of it. It is in this hotel that I have had the best Benne (butter) Dosas in Davangere. Benne Kali Dosas are THE BEST. You can have them for breakfast, lunch, dinner or anytime. You will just enjoy it! You will definitely nourish the hot and spicy coconut chutney and you can ask for extra butter also. Hotel is in an old building and crowded with students. Forget your diet, cholesterol levels and hygiene and enjoy eating here. If you are travelling long distance in train or a bus, I can guarantee you good sleep. But beware if you are driving a car on the highway, you may slightly doze off!!"
