The food at this restaurant was excellent. Michael D, the employee, provided great service and the food was nice and hot, cooked perfectly. I highly recommend keeping him on staff. The service was quick for a takeout meal type during dinner, and the price per person was reasonable at $10–20. I rated the food, service, and atmosphere all as a 5 out of 5. I recommend trying the Lightly Breaded Jumbo Gulf Shrimp Dinner... View all feedback.
What Marianne Hensley doesn't like about Johnson's Fish Shrimp:
I wish I would have read the other reviews. Got the shrimp and calamari. The shrimp was so dry and overcooked. It was hard to chew. Calamari was also dry and reminded me of shoelaces. Very sad that Luke turned a once Icon of the area into a very sad experience. Type of meal: Takeout Meal time: Lunch Cost per person: $10-20 Food quality: 5 stars Service quality: 5 stars Ambiance: 5 stars
It appears that the breading on the shrimp has been changed to a lighter version, which has altered the taste. The breading was also slipping off the shrimp, something that has not happened before. The shrimp itself was slightly chewy. On the other hand, the cole slaw was delicious. The service was quick for a take-out order and the atmosphere of the restaurant was pleasant. Overall, the meal cost around $10-20 per person. Food quality would be rated a 2, service a 4, and atmosphere a 4.

Overall I'm comparing this food to other establishments and my personal cooking and I wasn't impressed with it. We actually passed this restaurant while traveling to Joliet and decided to give it a try and it wasn't a good choice. The customer service was good and the environment was good but the food is where they didn't meet expectations. It definitely lacked flavor and I don't even think it was fully cooked. We got the catfish filets and fries and we ended up wasting about half of it. I gave the food three stars because of the quality of the fries the fish was a one or two star. No I don't plan to go back to give it another try and if we weren't driving and eating I would've just asked for a meal replacement.
