The food at this restaurant was fantastic. Unfortunately, our appetizers and entrees were not served simultaneously. After bringing this to the manager's attention, we received a sincere apology and a delicious complimentary creme brulee dessert. Despite this hiccup, we will definitely be returning in the future. What Foodie doesn't like about Thai Chef - Montclair:
I made a reservation one day ahead, but when we arrived at the restaurant, it was closed. The person we spoke to said they were aware of our reservation but that the restaurant would not be opening until Friday. This was very unprofessional, especially since I had guests from out of state expecting to have dinner there. A courtesy call to inform us of the early closure would have been appreciated. Not the best. Waited an hour for food that wasn't that great and didn't require much time to make. My date wasn't impressed as well. 2stars
The Thai dumplings were marvelous the best part of the meal. My main course was Peking Duck with egg noodles which was ordinary. The duck was dried up and the noodles were just okay.
I absolutely love this gem in Montclair. It is definitely my go to! The chicken pad thai and molten lava cake (you have to order at the start of your meal) are amazing.
Pretty room. Nice selection. Good size portions. BYOB. Simple to spicy. Meats, seafood, tofu, veggies, noodles of varied types. Outdoor patio in season.
I'm not sure what happened but the first time I ate here it was great. I recently dined here a second time as a treat for my friend's bday. The food was ok but you could tell it wasn't fresh. Cutting through the gtilled pork felt similar to a mini arm workout at the gym and my friend's chicken had a weird aftertaste. Considering my stellar experience during my first visit at Thai Chef I naturally expected the same quality of food. The food wasn't awful but you can tell they cut corners. Last but not least my friend and I had to ask for sauce multiple times for our dry rice. Our waitress forgot so many times that by the time the sauce came our rice was nearly gone. And no.... the restaurant was not full, unless 3 occupied tables is considered full.
