We had one of the most unforgettable dining experiences! The staff was exceptionally attentive and friendly. The food was delicious and packed with flavor, with just the right portion sizes. We absolutely loved the miso hotpot and the mackerel sashimi that was available that day. We visited on one of the coldest nights of the year, and it made for a wonderful experience. What Terry W doesn't like about Azasu:
Azasu is no longer open, though they have retained the previous staff. However, the chanko nabe, which I believe was the main highlight of dining at Azasu, is no longer on the menu. Additionally, the sumo wrestling matches on TV are also gone. View all feedback.
Azasu is a Japanese typical izakaya with excellent selection of food and cheap trips. perfect for a tapas style to share dinner with their crew. try it!
One of our favorites in the LES! The menu is eclectic but extremely manageable We have been there 3 times and we have not encountered a bad dish. The highlight is the Chunkonabe, which is a stew Sumo wrestlers eat to bulk up before a match. We normally order two servings of the stew and about 4 other dishes, which comfortably feeds 4 adults. Other dishes we have tried are the seared mackerel, sake clams, takoyaki, various skewers, yakisoba, and karaage. There is a large assortment of cup sakes (with pull back tabs) that are very popular in Japan.
Food was not surprisingly good but I was sick so may have not tasted everything. Pot was not as big as I thought. The fried chicken and age tofu was the best!
The service was very neglectful and slow. We waited for about fifteen minutes before a water glass was brought for one guest and about the same time for water refill. No one acknowledged us unless we flagged them. The waitstaff do not scan the room when walking through it. Food was mediocre, about the quality usually for catering to college students but the price point a bit above that. Overall, one gets the feeling that this is a place for kids who don 't expect too much in way of food or service.
This is the best Japanese research I've ever been!! Lots of great food!
