"We had a cup of tea in the scissors bistro. we asked the waitress there what she suggested we do with our afternoon, and she said that she would get a few tellerbäckchen from robertson, as they were really good and they would go to the beach. we came to st. margaret’s hope and found it and since it was such a beautiful day, sat before robertson with tee, coffee and two tray bakers and shared it. she was right, they were really delicious."

"I really admire the spirit of Carol and Hamish who are keeping this remarkable restaurant going in the face of acute staff shortages. The service they provide is outstanding and the location is breathtaking. But, perhaps inevitably, too much of the food was pre prepared food that needed no cooking such as smoked fish or cold lobster. One hot fish dish, even simple grilled or fried plain fresh fish, would have made all the difference. My advice is to check before you book perhaps we were unlucky and ask what’s on the menu. But a restaurant must offer more than the choice we faced. We had a a very pleasant time, but a rather limited meal."

"What lovely food! Like other restaurants in the area, you have to book ahead. Well worth the effort. Great young, enthusiastic team of staff and food that was really enjoyable to eat. Standard Italian menu well cooked and presented."

"This is the most reliable restaurant in Kirkwall these days. The food is always good. We both had starters the Butternut Squash Soup was creamy and tasty, hubby had the prawn cocktail which he enjoyed. We both had the Roast Turkey which I thought was a giant plate of turkey and all the trimmings. Hubby complained about the amount of turkey but in the end he was too stuffed to order dessert and he admitted he really liked it. We ordered soft drinks as we had appointments in the afternoon. The food came out quick enough, the only little hiccup was perhaps getting in a few minutes early before our reservation and no one being on hand to greet us or show us where to sit. That is pretty typical these days when it is so difficult to find staff. Someone came and in truth we didn't wait that long. Definitely make a reservation whether for lunch or dinner. I think they do serve food in the bar as well if you don't want to sit in the restaurant. The lavatories are clean and tidy. We will definitely return."
