Dinner Shore with Chef Bruce Rennie Have you ever been in a restaurant and the actual Chef/Patron welcomes you at the door? And then shows you to your table and chats. Bruce Rennie Koch comes from the kitchen to tell you what you eat and where it is from. Also in his barefeet. All served by a beautiful waitress. It is a set menu with Japanese influences. The ingredients are all locally produced and as fresh as possible. We wanted to visit Bruce before we locked up and planned our whole trip to the South West Coast. Let's just say it was worth the trip to eat in such a special restaurant. We won't list what we had. The pictures show how fabulous it was. Thank you. Bruce, it was great to see that you did the laundry before we got into the kitchen. Review helpful as follow thanks.
If you come to Penzance, don't miss it! We had a fantastic experience in Shore. Not your usual restaurant with the cook a man band and welcomes you barefoot for your meal, but what he cooks is incredibly delicious. We love the Wasabi Sorbet! Everything is very fresh and by local producers. The wine pairing was also very nice. Everything in a great evening, we will definitely be back!
This is a culinary experience. A cook that is passionate about cooking great food for people in a small and relaxed environment. When a meat fan came into a fish restaurant with a set menu, I could not see before we arrived filled me with light fear about what I would enjoy. At the entrance it was obvious The Shore was something else that was greeted by owner, cook and bottle washer Bruce Rennie, who was distinct from the offset. Inside there were only 5 tables of 2 to 4 seats. The tables were an artwork with wood and blue inset that reminded us directly from the nearby sea. When the menu changes daily, based on what is fresh, I won't spend long on it, but let's just say it was a pleasure to read. Before we started Bruce came out and explained what he does, why he cooks what he does and why the wines were chosen. For each of the 4 courses he gave a passionate overview of the ingredients, which was the inspiration for the dish and the palettes of wine and how it worked with the flavors of the dish. The food was amazing as the wines, but what makes this place so special is Bruce. After the meal he spent time to make sure everyone had enjoyed the meal and looked for every feedback. We were lucky to be the last table to go and know why he's doing this instead of working in big top-end rides as he has during his career. Book early to ensure joy.
As a trained chef myself, eating in any restaurant is a bit of a challenge as I'm constantly looking for faults and missed bits. The Shore does not disappoint! Every single course was presented well and carefully explained by the team. The cook on every dish was perfect and even though my girlfriend is a pescetarian we were graciously catered for by the team and one of the courses was adapted for her dietary requirements. I could not fault the flavours delivered to us. All local, seasonal produce from organic farms too. There was just the right amount of food served, our set menu was 4 courses, we couldn't have fit another mouthful! The dishes were attractive and didn't have the super pretentious aesthetics that usually come with this level of cooking. Every element was well thought out and added to the dish. We opted out of the paired wine flight but chose two from that list and they were super tasty! Bruce, the owner/chef both greeted us on arrival and chatted to us at the end of our meal and made us feel right at home. He even courteously listened to some additions I cheekily suggested to a couple of the dishes ; our waitress was lovely and super warm and welcoming. The perfect end to our stay in West Cornwall, definitely be back the next time we're this way
This was one of the most magical evenings I’ve ever had. What has been created by Bruce is an evening where you get to share his passion for exquisite local ingredients combined into beautiful plates of food. This is not just about eating great dishes but an experience like nothing else. The restaurant is intimate, with only 14 covers, which just adds to the specialness of the night.
