Um it happened to be Mardi Gras and I was served a free slice of king cake (unexpected which happened to have a small plastic baby in it, which apparently entitled me to a free beer and a shot. And my meal was amazing. Delta Cafe is my happy place View all feedback.
What Sarah M doesn't like about Delta Cafe:
Been here many times for brunch and happy hour the food is good and there's a unique vibe (there is often Bob Ross on TV during brunch) but it is hard to make up for the bad service. The staff are sweet but they move very slowly and our orders have been wrong maybe 15% of the time. The fried cheesy grits at brunch are 10/10 but don't go if you are on any sort of schedule. You can’t make this up. So my lady and I go to get dinner on a Thursday evening and we heard from another person they had great Cajun food. We get there and the place is dark and humid. We find a seat and waitress was super nice. We asked what the best food the had and she suggested the ribs, catfish, collard greens, and Mac and cheese. We wanted to support a Cajun restaurant because it’s hard to find a good one and again came recommended. Food came and when I say food wasn't, appetizing I mean it was mediocre at best. Giant chunks of tomatoes as a garnish, Mac and cheese was soupy, ribs burnt and honest smell on the way out. The jambalayas chicken was rancid. And the only thing alright was the collards. And I mean alright. The rancid chicken killed the meal and I immediately had to go to the bathroom. Date night ruined. We were rooting for this spot to be good but it just feels like no care for the food. Not to mention you could harm people with spoiled food. Please make some changes and check dates, and dear god turn a light on because it feels like a dungeon. Ps: your photobooths broken.
We love this place! The food and service has always been consistent. They play awesome music and display unique art from local artists. The fried okra is so f’in good. Don’t sleep on Delta Cafe!!
Service is always great, drinks are great and the food is not that good. Our ribs were burnt and I should say something to the staff but every time we eat here the food is just not that good! This time the collard greens were awesome, the cornbread was killer. Last time we got the jambalaya it lacked flavor and I couldn't stand the collard greens. This place has great ambiance and a great patio and was totally dead on a Friday night. I wish the best for this place and its staff. Whats the story? The kitchen burnt out? Owners? Feel free to write me back, I'm sorry to write a half negative review. I really want you to succeed. I ate at a newish chain in Boise Idaho. (it's hard to tell its a chain. It's packed every night. Menu items are different and interesting. It's called Tupelo Honey. I would support a restaurant intervention with all my might. (I dont like chains but I totally get why The Matador is busy all the time! Do your servers love your food? Is the kitchen burnt out? Are the owners??? So many questions. I will say that back in the day I ordered your Mac Etouffe style. It was amazing. So I ordered it again and again and again when it was available and it got worse every time. Consistency is so important and I know I'm a total a hole for writing this. I don't want to see this place go. I talked with my neighbors to find out if I'm the only one that feels this way. They said they haven't gone back in years.
The Service in the Bar is amazing and the food to die for!.... no joke I really love there Ice Tea!
Not going to say too much because I liked not having to wait at all to be and the service was amazing and fast, so if I keep talking about how amazing my food was everyone in Portland will know about my new favorite place.
