"Before today, if someone would have said something bad about Shogun within my earshot, I might have thrown something at them. I’ve been dining there for the last 20 years, even liking it so much that it’s a go-to for my birthday meal in addition to many celebrations and random meals throughout the year. What a brutal disappointment it was tonight, from top to bottom.Service: Our server showed up 5 minutes after we were seated, and myself and my date ordered a beer each. 20 minutes later, we got our beers. Okay. It happens. We ordered a three course meal. The salad and soup were served together, which hasn’t happened a single time since I’ve been dining at shogun. We weren’t presented with chopsticks, and were simply expected to use the spoon at the table, which (small gripe) is no longer a traditional spoon and a salad fork. Someone came by the table and cleared our plates asking if we wanted to keep our small salad forks, presumably for dinner. I said that I’d prefer chopsticks and they never came. My girlfriend and I asked for a shrimp and steak Donburi meal, with an addition of scallops for each of us. My girlfriend ordered first, and our server didn’t ask her how she’d like her steak. At the end of our order, I had to say, “by the way, we’d like our steaks med-rare”. After 40 minutes, our meals came out with chicken and steak, with scallops on the side. Our server asked if she could take them back and “find out what happened”, but I said that I didn’t want to wait another 40 mins and that it’d be fine. We ate for around ten minutes, and our server came by to let us know that prawns would be arriving shortly, and I told her that it would be too much to eat and we weren’t interested. She brought them anyways about 5 minutes later. At the end of our meal, she came by and said that the supervisor would like to offer us an *appetizer* because of issues with our experience. I couldn’t even believe my ears. I asked for the bill at that point. The food: the salad dressing that I’ve come to love over the years was watered (oiled) down, and unenjoyable for the first time I can remember. The ginger dressing with our donburi bowls was the same… Oiled down and with less ginger and garlic, giving a completely different taste and texture. The miso soup was watered down and near tasteless. My date’s only had a single piece of tofu, while mine was filled with it. The main itself was done well enough, with the steak was cooked properly.Ambiance: only a single server I noticed smiled at anyone the entire time we were there. The manager walked around, not making eye contact with anyone, dropping off salads and deserts. He didn’t come by during any of the issues that we let our server know about, and instead hid behind his offer of a free appetizer, through the server no less.We paid our bill, and will never be back. I can say how sad I am that one of the best and consistent restaurants in Prince George over the last 20 years has fallen so quickly. It is clearly under new ownership and/ or management, and I am just devastated that I’ve lost this is a point of pride in my city. All restaurants make mistakes now and again, but this was far from that. Worst service I’ve ever experienced, and the food has gone downhill too.Devastating."
