Out of the countless mid-high tier/priced Japanese restaurants in Richmond, this one is my preferred choice. It’s still pricey if you get drinks, but sometimes you gotta treat yourself. Engawa is a must get. Their skewers are cooked nicely. Servers were friendly and checks up on you regularly. The food comes quickly. Food was extremely average for the price.I enjoyed the sukiyaki and the sashimi was ok but everything else was a miss. The saba oshi was a major disappointment; the rice was mushy and the saba was extremely dry. As for the tempura, you can tell from the photo that the batter is not good and also the sweet potato was a little undercooked. Based on all their high ratings, maybe we just didn’t order the right things but... View all feedback.
